Hello, I finally realised that this doesn’t seem to be getting fixed. I assumed for a long time that it was still under construction and would come in the next update. Well I did the last big update and nothing has changed. My phone will show the alerts (like a normal phone alert/message) and there will be a red icon with a number that seems to correspond to those alerts. But when I click on the message icon it takes me to an empty message box. It has always been this way, in fact I don’t think I have ever seen a phone/app that does have messages. I currently am using a Galaxy A14 but have had the app on other devices with the same result.
The wyze app doesn’t send messages, just notifications in the notification shade (push notifications).
Clicking on a notification should bring you to the wyze app (either live feed or the recorded event).
Then what is this empty box for? It seems like we’re the notifications should be showing up. Idk why they say messages but that is what the app says.
I misunderstood what you were referring to, but I don’t recall seeing that in my app. Can you explain how to navigate to that screen you’re seeing?
Oh wait I found it!
So I saw the red icon showing as well mine said 5. Nothing is in discover tab but I did have 5 things in sharing. Once I went back out of the messages area that number cleared after I had looked at the sharing tab.
Yeah, the notifications seems to also share with the shared devices tab. However this instance and a few other times I haven’t had shared devices or there are way more notifications than devices. I assumed that this is where things like low batteries, overpower usage, temperature drop and other things need to be potentially actively addressed. Similar to the alerts that I get on my phone that disappear the second I open the app.
I think the discover tab is for promotional stuff maybe? The shared devices tab is just the message letting you know or reminding you a device was shared or the share was accepted, like an alert. But the shared devices are managed elsewhere in the app.
I think the only way to get the notifications for the things you suggested is the push notifications.
Hey, @carverofchoice, @R.Good, @Seapup do you have any insights into this?
Y’all are talking about the thing that looks like a little speech balloon in the upper-right corner of the Account screen, right? That has always puzzled me, too.
I wouldn’t have thought of that, but that seems like a good guess. I seem to recall older versions of the app having this “discover” thing that could be enabled on the home screen and would periodically appear as kind of a mini-tutorial about app features.
Yep! Now I’m curious. Lol
Me, too. Before I posted, the had a red overlay with a white “23” in it, but there was nothing to see (except the shares) when I tapped into it, and then I had to back out of the Account tab and tap back in before the message count (?) disappeared.
I should note that I didn’t have any old Wyze notifications hanging out in the notifications drawer (where I swipe down from the top of the screen on my phone to see regular notifications) at the time, so I have no idea what that number was supposed to mean.
Yeah that’s what I saw too. Red indicator showing 5, nothing in discover, but 5 things in sharing. Once I backed out of that back to the account screen the red bubble disappeared.
I don’t think this little message bubble in account has anything to do with the push notifications. I think it’s only tied to what’s in that screen (discover or sharing).
I really have no idea. Mine was in the double digits, so I wondered if that was supposed to be some sort of count of the notifications it’s received/generated since the last time I checked, but I’m just guessing there.
Did you happen to delete the things in the sharing tab? If you didn’t delete them, count them and see how many you have?
At this point I’m just throwing out guesses. I never check it (as evidenced by my not knowing where it was at first).
Yeah, that weird thing. I totally forgot that was a thing. I remember it being super annoying and not very helpful. If that is what it is, then shouldn’t be stuff here all the time? If it is what it is then I vote we replace it with a running list of notifications. I don’t read all the notifications the phone has and things like low battery are really important so could use a reference to which device. (Yes I know in the device it says when it is low, but do you know how many devices I have to go through? Or over power usage, they don’t get a red icon like the batteries.)
If you have an android phone, you should be able to see your notification history if they clear after you click one.
No deletey the sharies!
It’s 23:
- 10 shared to me
- 1 shared to me a second time (previously unshared during testing but still on the list shared from its original time, so now it’s there as “Accepted” twice)
- 12 I’ve shared
Good guess!
I always get annoyed at those in other apps, like when I open an app because I want to do a specific thing but then there’s this “Hi! Let me show you something!” in your face that…
- I don’t want to deal with right now, because I want to do this other thing immediately—the thing that I actually launched the app to do!
- I might want to learn this information later, but if I close this or swipe it away to work on the thing I want to do right now, then I don’t know if I’ll be able to easily find this thing again when it’s more convenient for me to absorb.
It’s always frustrating. At least the things in the Wyze app that I seem to recall used to be persistent for a while until you actually went through them.
I don’t have any Wyze battery-powered cameras, but I recall reading something this summer about battery percentages displaying in a different place in the v3x app that maybe wasn’t intuitive or easy to find. My Wyze battery-powered devices are things like Scale S, Headphones, and Buds, and I’m not really looking for battery levels for those in the app.
I still have no idea what that Discover tab is supposed to be now. It seems weird that it says “No messages”. If it really is related to the app feature tutorial thing from earlier (I seem to remember one of them mentioning Rules (pre-“Automations”) and prompting the user to go to the Rules creation screen to try that), then I would expect for those kinds of things to be enabled at Account ➜ Notifications ➜ In-app Notifications ➜ News & Updates.
I do have some battery pro cams, but I just see the battery percentage on the camera overlay in live view. I don’t recall if that changed, as I just recently purchased those and my previous battery powered cameras (outdoor v1) bricked with one of the updates a couple years back and I never did get it sorted out.
I think I was remembering this and the discussion that followed within that topic:
