I purchased 5 of these cameras and have two up. The issue is how short the cable is. I mounted two high on a wall and they’re in high traffic areas so the cables keep getting unplugged. I thought the 20ft extension cable would do the trick but even with 7 listed in stock, you can’t deliver them to me? I’m in Illinois so not sure how but I tried the Wyze store on Amazon and the price there for the same product is almost double. Was going to order a 6pk of night lights and also noticed the nightlights on your Amazon storefront are double the price. A) If they’re listed in stock, why can’t I buy them? B) If I can’t buy them with you but can buy them on your Amazon store, shouldn’t the prices be the same?
Check the thread that @WildBill posted, but honestly if all you need is a USB extension cable and it doesn’t need to be flat, there are tons of good inexpensive options on Amazon, they don’t have to be Wyze branded.
Thanks. I ended up seeing your message and doing that. Just worried sometimes about ‘knockoffs’ but went that route for now.
@flyguymike - All of my cams are using extension cables and flat out of necessity. All purchased from Amazon marketplace sellers and most are 20ft cables. No failures 5 years of using Wyze cams.
I’ve used this brand successfully for over two years with no major issues. My v4 is connected with this exactly 40 ft one.
Wow. I thought 20’ was the limit.
It is fine as long as you don’t push it too hard. For example I can’t have the floodlight and the siren at the same time, as either the siren will not shot down or the floodlight will not turn off from the app. But for basic stuff such as live view, notifications, checking recorded stuff on the cloud or SD, no issues at all. I figured even if it kills the camera it will be cheaper to replace the camera than putting an AC plug close to the camera. Don’t forget, I have a 2.4 Amp plug pushing the power to the camera and the voltage has never dropped lower than 4.84 V (well within camera limits) unless I manually invoke the floodlight and siren at the same time, then all hell breaks loose
If it becomes an issue you may want to look into POE to USB adapters. POE can increase its output to compensate for cable length, and CATx cable is higher gauge typically so less voltage drop anyway.
Or of course there is the option of extending the AC power via extension cord or outlet etc. The main issue with the flat USB cables is they typically have lower gauge. While a round cable may have 24 gauge for power (the good ones anyway) the flat ones may be 30 or worse.
As I said, it would be more expensive to run AC or even PoE to that particular camera. After all it is only CAN$40
@habib - Wow!! That’s an expensive cable, but the again it’s Canada. $20.99 in USA and $12.99 for a single 42.5ft cable same brand. Could have been a consideration in states to wire a BCP in a shed without electricity from an outdoor outlet. Better option was a solar panel which has worked out very nicely.
that’s Canada to you my friend. From what I’ve heard Canadian dollar yesterday was the lowest in so many years comparing to the US dollar. But hey, at least we have a free health care
