Decoder enabled

What does “Enable hardware decoder” mean

I think @Seapup had a good explanation.

Something like taking to load off of software and placing the load on hardware. Not always a good thing to select.

Hopefully @Seapup can explain it better.

There is a Support article on this also.

In short:

  • Software decoding uses the device CPU
  • Hardware decoding uses the device GPU

Technically, both are using a kind of programming/software which is also running on and using some kind of hardware, so it is kind of funny to call one software and one hardware, when both are technically both…but they mean primarily on the CPU vs primarily on the GPU. I’ve always gotten a chuckle out of that.

The cams have a GPU? Or are we talking about the phone.

Guess I need to read the article.

Good question! Both are talking about your mobile phone’s software/hardware (CPU/GPU), not the camera.
