Consolidating 7 cameras and 6 lightbulbs under one router, how to change WIFI newtwork without resetting every single camera?

Hi guys I have 7 different camera scattered around house and 6 light bulbs. I used used 3 different WIFI routers because of signal issues. I have used old routers just to get things going using different SSID names
Yesterday I have got new modern powerful router and now I want to consolidate all cameras under one umbrella.
I cannot find an option how to change WIFI network!
And In same time I do not want to climb to reach every single camera and perform software reset or what not.

Please help

Your only option is to create guest SSIDs on the consolidated router with the other SSID name(s). There is no way to remotely change the cameras or do it without going through setup again.

But note, if you do the setup over again, DO NOT delete the devices first.

Technically it won’t hurt, but leaving them in the app and just doing the setup again and using the same name it should keep all your settings making things a lot easier.

Of course there are certain cases with the outdoor cams and hub where you need to be extra careful about how you do it.

Does any one know why there is no such feature? I was scrolling the forum and it seems like there are many requests for such feature and WYZE team did not really react except “THERE IS NO OTHER WAY”…
I have many examples of other devices that do allow such changeover without re-settings them. It is possible to say at least.
Also from the security stand point it is good idea to change your SSID/PASS/ROUTER from time to time, well at least in my books

Don’t delete them from the app, just do a re-setup and name them the same. The MAC address stays the same, the settings stay, events stay. I’ve always set mine up at home, make sure they actually work, do updates, do my settings, name them where they will be deployed and the take them 360+ miles to my land and do a setup to join the network.
Easy peasy.
Even with multiple access points, the SSID / PW should all be the same for proper roaming.
And so you don’t have this problem in the future create a 2.4 ghz IOT network.
Mine is named idIOT
This is also so that I can leave everything operational if the house is sold, leave the router and leave a QR code stuck to the router for logins and erase all other networks.

Than you for the guidance!
Do I have to press setup button on each cameras to make them into setup mode…? Well before executing on your guidance…right?

Yes. Just do them one at a time and do the normal + sign to add device in the app but don’t remove the existing device. You’ll get the “ready to connect” and just like a new device. The light bulbs, I don’t 100% know, but the Mac addess will remain the same.

At least you only have a few devices and it’s a one time fix. We have over 170 IOT devices on a Hubitat hub and 24 Wyze cameras spread over 3 properties in different states. My wife says if anything happens to me, she’ll just read via a flashlight instead of figuring out how the lighting works

Because once you disconnect it from your old wifi, there is no way to talk to it remotely, it is no longer on the network. It has to disconnect before you can tell it to connect to something new. That’s why these cams use bluetooth or a QR code for the setup process, because something has to tell it the SSID and password. No different here. This is the case with pretty much every wireless IOT device, basically how networking works.

Theoretically they could have some provision for you to program two different wifi networks into the cam (potentially the second one remotely once it is on the first one) so it would be able to connect to the second one, then you can delete the first. But theoretically is the key word. does the processor, wifi chipset, and underlying software have those abilities? That’s typically something you only see on higher end devices like PCs and phones. How many people would end up mis-typing the new one then getting locked out and having to get out the ladder anyway…

Honestly since it is the norm with IOT stuff I don’t see them spending resources adding that sort of feature. Maybe (big maybe) they could add a “remotely enter setup” button in the app, but you’d still need to get close enough to the cam for bluetooth to work, and that’s only on the ones that use bluetooth, would still be pretty useless for the QR code ones.

Personally that’s one reason (other than the obvious security reason) I keep my IOTs on a dedicated network, unless someone manages to hack it and is using my internet, I have no reason or need to ever change the SSID or password.

One possible (but risky) option is to delete the camera from the app while it is on the old wifi network. if it is one of the cams that has bluetooth and if it is one of the cams that automatically wipes and goes into setup mode when you do that, you might be able to get within range to set it up again without getting out the ladder.

I suppose if you’re going to have to do it anyway, it is worth a try.

A factory reset is easy enough for those just by turning off power at whatever switch controls the socket(s) and then turning it back on, then repeating that two more times (a total of three times) in fairly quick succession (no rush, over a span of a few seconds). The Bulbs should start to pulsate in lieu of a “ready to connect” voice prompt.
