Is there a way to change a Wyze Camera’s Network from one SSID to another SSID?
I have a vague recollection of seeing this on a Beta firmware of one of my camera’s and/or a beta of the Wyze App, but don’t recall which one. Perhaps it was a dream I was having?
I want to move my Two Floodlight Pro’s to a new SSID without resetting them.
Yes, with many models they actually have it built into the app now (but you need to have the old SSID online to start the process) or just press the setup button and go through the setup again in the app, it will just update the wifi and keep all your other settings.
If your model has the switch function in the app (under camera info where it shows the wifi strength) you can just fire up a guest network on the new router with the old SSID temporarily, having both online at the same time will make it easy.
If you do have to do the setup button, from what I recall once you’ve put in the new network info, you can just cancel out of the rest of the setup and it will be good to go. Not that finishing the process is a big deal either.
This is another great example of inconsistencies with WYZE cameras. Some models support it and others do not. If your model supports it, the ability to change the network is found within Device Info.
Live stream the cam, go to settings, then look for Device Info. Next to ‘Network’ a Change button appears if your model camera supports it.
Unfortunately, based on my experience with other Wyze cams Ihave switched, you will have to reset/repair them to the new network ssid. It cannot be done seamlessly.
I’ve switched several of my cams back and forth for testing and even before they added the feature in the app, pushing the setup button was always seamless and takes like 30 seconds. Have never had to reset one.
Pushing the setup button is akin to resetting in my opinion. You have to reestablish with the new network thru the setup process and assign/select the new network. Agree/disagree? The problem is accessing the fllodlights which are probably mounted high requiring use of a ladder.
No, holding the setup button is a reset. Pushing it once and updating the SSID does not affect any of your other settings.
How else would you change the network? Even on the ones that support doing it totally via the app you have to select the new network and put in your password.
For the camera models that have the update via the phone app, you MUST still have old SSID available in order to communicate the new SSID info to the camera. Best when both the old and new SSIDs are both available.
As far as why some cameras support it and some don’t, history gets involved. Until recently NONE had this capability. Over time each camera type is getting the feature added. We are mid process. Eventually I expect all (except some really old cameras that can’t support it) will have this capability.
Wanna bet? It’s good to have expectations, but I wouldn’t hold your breath. It has been well over 6 months since the v3 was blessed with this capability. I don’t own them, but am willing to bet that new camera models released since the v3 update do not have this capability.
Let’s be real. If WYZE is not building this into new models, why would anyone think they are going to go back and fix ALL of their cameras?
Obviously I have no inside information, but Wyze has been rolling the feature out to additional cameras - at least according to release notes, so yes, I believe this is an in progress feature release. I do recall that some info on some of the older cameras is that they are VERY tight on memory and may simply not be able to support it.
