Connecting cams from AT&T DSL to AT&T AIR

Searching forums for AT&T internet Air has no matches so someone please save me from jumping off a cliff and tell me wyze cameras will reconnect to this forced network change if I make the Air device (internet through 5G) the same SSID and password?? Totally don’t trust all these cams, esp older V2’s to simply connect (like they are new cams) after they are removed from current network to this 5G AT&T is forcing by d/c DSL service.

I’m not going to make any guarantees, and I don’t have specific experience with Internet Air, but last year we were forced to switch from DSL to AT&T Fiber (if remaining with the same provider), being told that they’re trying to decommission their copper lines. The technician who came to the house to set up the new gateway (they replaced the older one with a new unit capable of connecting to their fiber line) transferred the settings, and everything worked as expected at the conclusion of the visit. I would imagine that the transition to Internet Air would be a similar experience, but I’d be interested in learning from someone who’s gone through this specifically.

As long as you set the new router’s wifi up the same they should all just reconnect. Possibly a power cycle but likely not even needed.

If they don’t reconnect, we can suggest a few things to try, newer routers sometimes default to disabling some older things and that can be tweaked as needed. For example if the encryption method says WPA3 only you’ll need to change that.

Thanks guys I’m praying so. The lacking AT&T CSR said she changed the air device info for me to the same as the DSL router but it’s not showing up that way in their app or under my phone connections. Connection is still the name the air thing came with. Can sit in the dark if I have to because smart lights went kaput but the worst thing would be losing wyze cams. Well maybe the worse is sites buffering and refreshing like I haven’t seen since dial up!

May need to reboot it to download the new config but if not, you should be able to change them in the app.

As far as your throughput issues, try getting the router up as high as possible, near windows, etc. It is relying on cellular signals now. But if you have a strong signal, unfortunately that means their network is just oversubscribed in your area.

Wow, all cams connected to the AT&T Air router flawlessly!:joy: Just like if they were reconnecting to their DSL. Gave Air the same info, unplugged DSL, heart sink when Wyze app showed eeeverything as offline. Patience without breathing and slowly one by one every smart device showed connected.

Had a good AT&T tech who made sure settings were at their best and everything seems great except Wyze playbacks on cams with mSD’s. Was using an older version app scrolling fine, meaning time quickly caught up and vid played wherever I lifted my thumb from the green bar hash lines. But since Air it’s pretty rough to scroll because it can take at least 10 seconds for time to change and video to start playing every time you stop at a place on the scroll line. :frowning: That’s rough, I need to use that feature frequently.

Also when scrolling across a timeline I could often see fast motion but now it’s dead zone stop at a time wait and wait, time on screen catches up with where you stopped and video will start. That makes catching what you need to catch so much harder than if you can see motion going FF in the while timeline scrolling. Anyway the worst of the worst was nothing at all, converting internet service. Thanks again for tolerating another panic attack in text. Funny not funny haha. Lost a bit of teeth height on that.

If you upgraded the app, that may be the cause of the scrolling change, shouldn’t be anything to do with wifi unless the new router has a worse wifi signal or something. My OG cams’ SD card playback is very slow to respond, but my v4 and Panv3 seem ok. But with the v3 getting the newer interface in the new app, that may be what you’re seeing, just a difference in the way it works. You do have the option of going back to the older app, but one has to assume at some point that won’t work. No idea when that will be. So far all my cams still work in the old 2.5 app on my second (very old) phone, and the OG issue does not exist in that one.

Assuming your viewing device and cams are on the same wifi, video streams locally so it shouldn’t have anything to do with the internet service itself. If it happens when you’re not on the same wifi, then that could be due to some of the limitations of cellular internet (higher latency, fluctuating bandwidth, etc).

That’s what I would’ve expected based on my previous experience with an AT&T service transition. Glad it worked out well for you. :+1:

Thx Dave, good info. Phone and cams are on same network and it’s been way faster than DSL. Being a rural area DSL ran about 6 Mbps dl which was only just enough. Before adding smart devices and Wyze cams 5G Air was knocking 200 Mbps and tests with Ookla currently show 88 but have decreased to 25. Still noticeably faster and should end up slightly cheaper per month. Did LG’s big webOS 25 last night. It said The average time dl takes is 20 some minutes and mine took 4! Def thought something was wrong lol.

App v2.50.7 is working well now with scrolling mSD on V2 but still stop start motion with V3. These things aren’t easy to explain in text but V2’s are showing background movement and time’s keeping up fine, no delay for vid to start when scrolling stops.

Unfortunately V3s do not show the timeline’s movement while scrolling but the long delay after stopping is gone. Man, that is an important feature that the new app completely destroyed too. Seems like the new app is only good for very basic clip viewing and it’s such a shame they went backwards. What’s the point of even putting in a SD card when you can’t scroll to see who was where and have to watch the entire hours you were away?? Thx so much, the dog wants food serviced.

Ok I thought in an earlier post you were saying internet was slow and buffering etc but sounds like you got that sorted.

I don’t have a v3 (which I know just got the updated interface like the models I have) but none of my cams have ever showed video movement while scrolling. Maybe that was something the old interface had. The new one you can skip between events using the arrows that are overlaid on the video (tap it to see them) or it also has 30 second skip forward and back. And obviously you can move around the timeline too. I would like to see like 2x, 4x, 8x etc on fast forward and rewind. Cloud videos have that, would be really great to have on the uSD cards too.

Unfortunately the only way to get the old v3 behavior back would be downgrade the firmware and prevent it from upgrading again. Not sure if you also have to use an older app version or not.

Hey Dave thanks again, sry for life delaying a reply. Yes the initial plug-in and set up of Air was crap speed. It took calling in and tech support to properly register, is what I got from it, my account and he said he was adjusting some settings. After that it’s been faster than DSL.

Yeah skipping from motion event to motion event is nothing like being able to see movement by scrolling-thanks for giving me a simple way to say that lol. Esp because I’m grandfathered in and not subscribed so have the 5-minute cool down. It’s working off and on so hopefully it’ll improve. But yeah it used to be awesome just perfect background movement like slowly FFing like a DVR.
