I’m trying to connect a Wyze Cam v4 to a outdoor wireless solar panel. I’m having a problem with the cam stating that it offline. When I plug it up to a power source inside it comes on with no issues. Any suggestions?
I’m puzzled by your description of what you’re trying to do. What is a “wireless solar panel”, and how would you connect it to a Cam v4 without a wire? What other details can you provide? For instance, is this the Wyze Solar Panel (which is specifically not designed for Cam v4 or other wired Wyze Cams) or something else? What’s the output? What do you expect to provide power for the Cam v4 when the panel is not generating electricity (i.e., at night)? Before we can provide any suggestions, I think we’re going to need more detail.
Welcome to the Forum, @meljack45!
Welcome @meljack45 , as @Crease indicated, can you provide additional information.
However, just so you realize, the Wyze Cam V4 is not a battery camera and will not function with a Solar Panel attached. You would need to run the camera from a continual Power Source.
Thanks
Yeah, like @spamoni said it’s going to need a constant external source of electricity. Some community members have done things like this by using third-party solar panels to charge third-party batteries so that the battery is what’s actually providing power to the wired camera. Things like that are certainly possible, but I think the solar panel alone probably isn’t going to do what you want (though without more detail I’m not sure what the actual goal is).
You would need to do something like solar panel → USB power bank w/ passthrough charging support → camera. If there isn’t enough excess from the solar panel to keep the battery bank charged you’ll need to manually charge it from time to time (but that’s no different than a battery cam with a solar panel and this should give you longer between charges).
Just make sure to protect the battery bank from the elements, particularly water and heat, most are not meant for outdoor exposure.
