Where is the cache stored, in app, or in camera?
If I have the Wyze app installed on 2 phones and 2 iPads, does cache need to be cleared on every one?
Why does clearing the cache do?
Open the app > tap account bottom right>scroll down to App Settings > go to the bottom and clear the cache.
On android there is also a cache in the system settings for the app. I’d do both just to be safe. Or if you really want to clean things up, uninstall and reinstall the wyze app and log in fresh.
I think this depends on what you’re really trying to answer at the root of your question. What do you expect clearing the cache to accomplish for you?
What I tend to use it for is refreshing my profile data in the app if I’m seeing unexpected behavior that I can’t seem to resolve with more straightforward means and as kind of a last step before completely uninstalling/reinstalling the app. I use Android, though, and as @dave27 indicated there’s an OS-managed cache for the app, as well, which is why I tend to clear both:
This is how I would get a clean copy of my account profile/settings on Android (click/tap to expand):
- Clear the in-app cache: From the Wyze app’s home screen, navigate to Account ➜ App Settings ➜ Cache File Size ➜ Clear.
- Navigate back one screen to Account and tap Log Out at the bottom.
- Swipe the Wyze app out of the running Android apps.
- Long-press on the Wyze app’s launcher icon (on the phone’s home screen or wherever you tap to initially open the app) and then tap App info in the pop-up menu.
- Tap Force stop on the App info screen (may need to tap OK to confirm) and then tap Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear cache and Clear storage on the Storage screen.
- Back up one screen (back to App info) and then tap Open and proceed to log back into your Wyze account/app. (Optionally reboot the phone at this step for good measure and then launch the Wyze app after the fresh boot instead of relaunching it immediately from this screen.)
Note: I don’t know what the options would be for modifying these steps on iOS since I don’t use that platform.
Doing this forces a new app login (you have to re-authenticate with Wyze servers) and pulls down a fresh copy of your profile and most device settings (seems like I read recently in at least one topic about how certain settings aren’t preserved and restored when doing this, but I don’t recall exactly what the exceptions are).
