Car parked in front of our house- Hit & Run- Time running out to review continuous recording, where do I start?!

I got one of those but sadly she wouldn’t do any better… So make sure you test before you buy

Hate that this happened … great reason to have WYZE!!
I do, however, wish that my cameras had such a great picture!! Even at night! Mine are pretty blurry, whether outside or inside and all the time … I would not have been able to get the great evidence you had. Glad you were able to catch the truck image!! Good luck with it.

That’s a great pic.
My Labrador is just as scary.

Yup, these two would be the give away ambassadors at the front door.

The only arguement would be who gets which end of the sofa.
My wife and dog sometimes have that arguement.

@jeff007, your point is very fair. I hope that when the NAS compatibility comes out later this year that this issue will have a better solution. But if you need immediate access to footage, you CAN view it through the Wyze app. The main issue with that is that viewing happens in real time there so in cases like this where the time frame can’t be easily narrowed down it can take quite a while. We plan to make improvements to Playback to help with stuff like this.

For the dog discussion…

This is Bonney! When our house was broken into when I was a kid, a police officer asked if our dog would have done anything about the thief. My mother’s response was, “Oh yes, when you find him that guy will be COVERED in slobber.”

The younger cop looked a bit flummoxed but the older guy nodded and said, “That’s what you want in a family dog.”

Thanks for replying. That makes perfect sense that NAS would at least make it more architecturally possible to remotely access content from the SD card and/or the NAS device itself.
Yes, I have a dog that would lick an intruder endlessly too. Very cute dog you have.

You’re welcome! Thanks for bringing it up.

Bonney was great! She passed a few years ago but she lived to a ripe, happy age and licked many visitors over the years. MOST of the visitors had been invited. :stuck_out_tongue:

Went to our local Sheriff’s office and they referred us to CHP- California Highway Patrol since incident occurred on a roadway.

Filled out book report after book report of documentation, supplied pictures of the impact, 2 minute clip of the incident, pictures of his work trucks, license plate information, etc.

I have to wait for an officer to be assigned to the case who will then show up at his house and see if he admits fault/admits fault on behalf of his employee- then we can pursue resolution directly with one another.

If he doesn’t admit fault, I’ve got to prepare all my proof and head to the county to open up a case in Small Claims. How fun.

I’m sure my case is very low on the totem pole, so I’ve been asked to give it a week before an officer is assigned. Yay.

Wow, aside from the civil damages, I would think they would investigate this as a hit and run. Too bad.

Wow, seems the victim gets victimized again with time consuming paper work. Then there is a bunch of unknowns that follow with how the case gets pursued. Yuk!

I have experience in dealing with car accident stuff. It is always a time consuming endeavor especially if you are the victim. Even after his insurance agrees to payup; You have to find a body shop, make and wait for an appointment, oversee the work and quality of it, deal with having or not having a rental car, etc.

get an attorney that you don’t have to pay unless “you win” they are more motivated to win and might get you something for all the emotional turmoil you’ve experienced :grinning:

Where I live the Police wouldn’t be involved unless the insurance companies reported it.
In this situation I would contact my insurance company and provide them the proof. It’s up to them to recover the other guy’s insurance.
Personally, I would just go see the neighbour ansd give him the opportunity to pay for the repair without reporting it to insurance.

So what ended up happening? It’s been a while.

The OP hasn’t logged onto the forum since February, so I’m afraid we’ll never know. :frowning:

Disappointing. I read all of this in suspense, only to find no closure.

Haha, sorry to disappoint you all. It was anti-climactic, at least initially.

California Highway Patrol visited my neighbor and confronted him. I could see from my newly installed camera in front of my garage that he was animated and quite upset. I could sense the agitation in his voice as I creepily watched and listened from my camera. They then provided him with video proof that it indeed was him. I had provided a 4-5 page summary of detailed police report complete with photos, exact times, etc.

He had no choice but to admit his fault. 10 minutes after CHP visited him, he showed up at my door apologetic, saying that he drives a big truck and couldn’t feel anything. Even if that’s true, my alarm is loud as SH*. Either way, I really didn’t care. Filed a claim against his insurance, within a week they paid me out.

LESS than 2 months after (April-early May), a DRUNK DRIVER was being tailed by CHP coming up my street. They suspected him of drunk driving. Rather than pull him over, I have no idea why- they continued to tail him until he smashed his 2019 BMW White X5 into guess whose vehicle? That’s right boys and girls. 2nd Accident in less than 2-3 months for my PARKED vehicle in front of my house. I’ve been paid out over $3,000 for a car that’s barely worth half that.

Thank you all for your patience. It’s been one thing after another. I may end up quitting my job and just posting up on my front porch, awaiting the next idiot to hit my car. Goodnight to you all, the ROI on my Wyzecams is astounding.

I’m in the wrong business. LOL well we can say for sure that good things happen to good people. enjoy the cash, it’s nice to happen upon extra once in a while. probably worth the frustration at first i imagine. cheers

Thank you for letting us know how it worked out. Took me a month to notice the update but very glad things worked out for you…in the odd way it did. I have Wyze cams pointing at the street too but have noticed if I did not recognize or know the vehicle then I would be out of luck. Wondering if the new outdoor cam will do a better job of seeing license plates from far distances.
