Can't connect and set new device

Having 3 cameras for two years, using them as baby monitors.
2 of them stop working.
When connecting to power, the LED works, cant connect to them and can’t setup network.
When pressing on the setup I hear “ready to connect” one time but it doesn’t read the QR and doesn’t connect.

Well, I’ve had this. I fixed it by manually reloading an older version of the firmware. That let me get it run and connected, then a while later, I upgraded to the latest the firmware wanted me to use and it worked and stayed. It likely moves you back up to the version you are currently on. If so, that, to me, tells me, the most recent firmware update hiccup-ed during install and it finally surfaced.

Thanks!
How did you manualy reload an older version? What version?

A long shot: make sure the phone is connected to the same SSID that the camera is trying to connect to. I don’t know why this works but that’s my recent experience.

Welcome to the Forum, @lioriz888!

I think what @Sam_Bam was referring to are the instructions here:

That page also links to the Release Notes & Firmware page. Here’s where you can find available firmware downloads for Cam Pan v2:

Here’s an older but brief video that describes the process:

Before doing any of that, I’d recommend checking your cameras’ current firmware version(s) and comparing what you see to the Release Notes & Firmware list. You might already have your camera(s) on the latest firmware.

@p2788deal makes a good point, too, and sometimes I’ve had to go as far as disabling the 5 GHz radio/SSID on my gateway to force my phone onto the same 2.4 GHz network I want to use to set up a new IoT device. That might be another thing to try.

Thanks, but it’s not the case, I can’t get it to read the QR for the setup.

Thanks for the detailed answer.
The cameras are set to old network, I can’t connect to them so don’t know the firmware version.
The network is fine, I have another pan cam v2 at home that work great.
The issue is that I can’t set the network, it doesn’t scan the QR from the app.

You’re welcome. I wish I could be more helpful. My oldest camera is a Cam Pan v3.

What happens when you try these troubleshooting steps?

Thanks. Too much for me.

Folks? Has anyone ever used the QR Code from another one/second one that is at the same stage of setup?

Is the whole QR code visible on the phone screen?

Try this. Get to the part in the app device setup where you see the QR code, then lay the phone on a table with the screen pointed up. Then press the setup button on the camera, hear the ready to connect prompt then put the pan cam. With the camera lens pointed down on top of the phone. Then lift up on the pan cam. Lifting it slowly straight up from the phone screen, keeping it pointed at the phone screen. Hopefully, when you are out 5 or 6 inches up. It’ll read the QR code.

So to clarify, based on your posts you are trying to move 3 cameras to a new wireless network and 2 of them are not reconnecting?

Have you tried doing a factory reset on the cams instead of just pressing the setup button? As long as you don’t delete them from the app they should re-learn all your previous settings (except wifi) if you name them the same thing.

Sometimes QR code scanning is tricky, so also try some of the tricks others have mentioned. If you’re just trying to move them to a new wifi network, seems unlikely it was a firmware update issue etc.

I just noticed the piece of cake by your name.

Happy Anniversary!

Thanks all
@Crease
I tried to flash new firmware with the newest veersion - 4.49.13.0653, went over the steps:

  1. Cleared the SD card from all files.
  2. Unzipped the downloaded firmware.
  3. Renamed the folder recovery_wcpv2.bin
  4. Copied it to SD root directory
  5. Unplugged the camera.
  6. Press and hold the setup button.
  7. Reconnect the camera while holding the button, constant red LED.
  8. Holding the button for more than 6 seconds - nothing happen, constant red LED.

Try a factory reset on the camera:

  • Wyze Cam v3 or a Wyze Cam Pan v2: Hold the setup key for 10 seconds while powered on to reset the camera. Wait until the red/blue light flashes, then begin the setup process.

Held the button for more that 10 seconds, nothing happen, constant red LED.

In the same place, same camera (Cam Pan V2), same network (2.5 GHz), same phone with same Android app, works just fine.

Thanks for taking the time to report back. I have a couple of thoughts:

  1. I’ve read in the Forum that there may be errors with the documentation in the Help Center article that describes flashing firmware, and when I download and unzip the latest Cam Pan v2 firmware, I see a folder called recovery_wcpv2_4.49.13.0653.bin that contains an empty folder called __MACOSX and a file called recovery_wcpv2.bin. I believe it is this single file—not the folder—that the camera needs to be able to see in the root directory of the microSD card, so I’d try placing that there and initiating the firmware flash procedure.
  2. The instructions recommend using a 32 GB microSD card formatted in FAT32, so I’d want to use one of those, if possible. If you don’t have one of those and are unsuccessful with the firmware flashing process, then it may be worth trying to create a single 32 GB FAT32 partition on a larger card (if that’s what you have available). I imagine smaller capacity cards formatted FAT32 should work just fine, too, since the .BIN file I’m seeing is < 10 MB.

If you’ve already gone this far with trying to flash firmware, then I think it’s probably worth trying the above in order to salvage the cameras.

Keep in mind that the button is a mechanical button, you should feel a slight “click”, if not, you’re not pressing hard enough.

@lioriz888 - Had this problem with a v3. After the factory reset (i.r. lights flash on front of cam and status led light starts blinking red with “ready to connect”), the camera refused to read qr code on phone. Several fails had me ready to put the phone in garbage. There is a YouTube video fix that suggest printing the qr code so I did a screenshot of the code in preparation for printing. I opted to try the screenshot from the phone gallery before printing it and lo and behold, it worked. Got the ding and qr code scanned and a successful setup. Might be worth the effort for you.
