Since one of the recent Wyze app updates I have been unable to access Friendly Faces on the Intelligence page.. it just shows me a page that prompts me to subscribe. In my account it clearly shows that I am already subscribed to Cam Plus Unlimited. This is happening on both the iPhone and iPad versions of the app.
I have logged out, quit the app and then logged in again.. still unavailable.
Thanks. It is legal here. I just noticed that I can access the faces I’ve already added by clicking ‘Faces’ at the top of the Events tab.. but it doesn’t appear as though I can add people to it from there. The accounts tab is where I did it in the past but it is now unavailable.
My state DOES allow facial recognition for consumers (I read the law and consulted with a lawyer about it), but Wyze blocks it anyway because they are overly paranoid (maybe just to make sure that businesses can’t buy their cams to use it or something?):
Wyze cannot provide Face Recognition services in some areas, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New York City, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington State, and the Canadian Province of Quebec.
So I also have the issue of facial recognition settings sometimes working and sometimes not. Drives me crazy. This is actually one of the main things that would convince me to switch to a competitor that allows it in my state where it is legal, or to get a camera that uses RTSP so I can just do my own self hosted facial recognition (thankfully Wyze is finally working on RTSP, so I won’t have to change).
Thanks! That’s good info! I’m not in any of the states mentioned. I heard about RTSP coming.. hopefully that solves the issue. However, I still think It would be uncool if they’ve removed the functionality for Cam Unlimited subscribers because I have screenshots that explicitly state Friendly Faces is included in that and the Pro plan.
