I know this is gonna sound funny, but do these cameras have an expiration date? I have two cameras that completely died. I cannot reset them. The reset button does not work. I thought it was my charger. I changed chargers I thought it was my wall outlet by my light still come on, and I’ve had these cameras for about five years.
Almost all electronics will eventually die. I have had a few die, and on the other hand, my oldest camera is still working fine.
True, it just makes One upset when something dies all of a sudden
I don’t know if it helps but if you check out my post that I made, I had 2 Wyze Cam Pan V3’s that died so I took it apart and found out that it unalived itself by spinning too much and unplugged itself internally.
Sort of an elementary question, but did you press and hold down the reset button for at least 10-15 seconds?
If two totally died at the same time it would almost certainly be a power surge to blame.
No, there’s no expiration date. I have had nearly every camera model since the day they launched with a total of over 50 and none have died, including many of the V3 cams (which you tagged specifically). There is no expiration date.
However, they are electronics, and all electronics are prone to wear out over time in different ways. You were wise to try a different adapter. Sometimes the wire/cord goes bad too, so you may try swapping the cord too. See if you can use the adapter and cord in another device that is working just to verify they are both working okay.
It’s really rare to have 2 cameras go bad at the exact same time. This usually tells me there was either a power surge just like dave27 said, or a failed firmware update. I’m guessing it was a failed firmware update. This can usually be resolve with either a factory reset or “Flash” the firmware back to an earlier version.
Here are instructions to try flashing one of the cameras back to an earlier firmware.
Note that I disagree with step 4 and 5, you should only drag the already existing .bin file to the SD card, not the whole folder or zip file.
The rest of the steps are correct.
If it turns out that a power surge fried them both at the same time, there may not be a lot that can be done about it, but sometimes a surge will only burn out the adapter and power cord, so try replacing both of those and find a pair that are working with something else so you know for sure that’s not the issue. You’d be surprised how often that’s the easy fix.
