I was trying to access the wyze support, but seems that there is not anymore portal for that so I will post my problem here incase someone has any ideas and I can share the feedback if I manage to fix these.
But anyway I have been having multiple problems with the camera. First symptoms were the problem that it was very hard to enter to pairing mode. First it took hundreds of attemps to push the setup button to get the camera to pairing mode and to say the “Ready to connect”, but now I am not anymore able to do it at all. Then I just modified my current wifi setting to be the same as before so the camera still connects to network.
Next problem was that it does not recognize any sdcard, although same sdcard works on another v3 camera.
Now new problem I noticed that the infrared lights are not going on anymore. Have tried all night vision modes and also both far and near IR lights.
Then when debugging I noticed also that some other settings are not working. Camera status light option is not anymore working, I had it off before and can’t now turn it on, although app says it’s on.
Now I have tried to do factory reset for the camera but as the status light does not give me any indication that in which state it is and the setup button does nothing although I have tried pressing it different amount of time (10-60s) and with little bit different delay after turning camera, but no effect. I can also monitor that camera is connected to app although I am pressing the setup button for 60s.
With all of those things combined, my guess would be it got water in it and has shorted/corroded stuff.
You could try the bag of rice trick for 12-24 hours, but even if dried out the corrosion may be permanent.
Only other thought is try it with a different power adapter (any 5V USB power supply rated 1A/1000mA or higher should work fine) and maybe even a different cable to rule those out, as they could also cause oddities if the cam isn’t getting enough power.
Thanks for the hint, although I think rice would not help anymore, as these symptoms have started quite long time ago.
I now checked the video how to tear down the camera and I was quite surprised how well it’s sealed. I think there should not be any water as I have used it only indoors, but it’s already 4 years old so might be that I have forgotten some accident. One thing I was thinking that I have noticed the camera being quite hot sometimes so maybe some components have just overheated.
And yeah good reminder to try different cables and supplies, will check. Actually yesterday for other reason used different power supply and suddenly the status led started working again. It’s switching now randomly between constant blue and constant red.
I need to consider should I try to open the camera or try to flash it with sd card for more experiments, as now it still works and I will probably just brick it totally
The heat could be a sign of the failing power supply too, pulling more current to make up for the low voltage.
Solid blue with random red for 5-10 seconds is normal, red means it has detected motion and is recording an event.
So I suspect your power supply was the issue, but at this point it may have caused permanent damage. I wouldn’t tear it apart as I don’t think that will reveal anything that you can repair, especially if it hasn’t gotten wet that you know of.
