Cam unlimited & Sharing

I have cam unlimited and everything works fine on my portal on the website. What is happening is my shared cams are not showing any motion. Just a still picture, they are not live and prompts me to buy cam unlimited. In the past, my cam unlimited covered all the cameras I shared to other people. Has this changed??

A couple things you can check:

  1. Go into the camera settings and click the reset services button at the bottom of the settings page.

  2. go to the wyze services website and make sure those cams are showing in the list of cameras on unlimited.

  3. I believe there is a setting to automatically show the live feed or not. I don’t recall if this is an account setting or a camera setting off-hand.

Everything works great on the mobile app, but on the web view at my.wyze.com I am still getting a still photo with a lock in the center. When I click on the lock, it asks me what Cam Unlimited I want to buy. Seems strange to me that everything works ok on the Android app but not on the web app.

Lots of things will work on the mobile app without cam unlimited, but the web view is restricted to cam unlimited only.

You mention sharing - are you saying you’ve shared the cams with others and they can’t view them? Only the account with subscription can use web view as far as I know.

The main account works great. I share 4 cams with someone, and they have their own log in. On the shared account, EVERYTHING works good on the moble app, but on the webview, all 4 cams are locked, and when you click on the lock, it gives you options to subscribe to Cam Unlimited. Keep in mind, the main account (mine) already has Cam Unlimited.

As far as I know they would have to subscribe or use your login. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong though.

Yes, this was the question I was asking. I thought it worked before, but I could be wrong.

@carverofchoice and probably many others with subscriptions can answer this once and for all probably, but I’m pretty sure guests do not get access to web view if they don’t have a subscription.

I’m not even sure if they can view cloud videos in the app, but I think they can, I believe that’s been confirmed here before.

I have Cam Unlimited. I am not entirely sure if things were different in the past, but I just checked and confirmed that shared accounts with access to my cameras are only able to use the live view web portal for one camera at a time if they don’t have cam unlimited themselves. They can change which camera to view through the browser once per month.

Yes, they can view cloud videos in the app.

This may be an error though. From the comparison chart I see on this page:

It indicates that both Cam Plus and Cam Unlimited Pro should have what is called “Services Sharing” which I would take to mean basically all the benefits of the subscription. IMO, this should mean that all shared cameras with Cam Unlimited should be able to be viewed on the web portal. Perhaps this is a bug. I will see if I can bring this up with an employee (I’m not saying I’ll have anything to share, just that I promise to let an employee know how things are currently implemented in case it is a mistake).

This is the part that provides some clarity for me:

I was confused when I read the initial post:

I thought perhaps @pvkid initially meant that Cams being shared with (as in someone shared access to some Cams with) @pvkid weren’t viewable in Web View, but now I think the issue is that Cams shared by @pvkid with (i.e., granting shared access to) another user are not viewable within Web View when that other user is logged in with that person’s account.

That’s my understanding of how it’s designed to work if this Help Center article is accurate (I added the highlighting):

I’m not sure which of the first two bullet points applies to this shared user account, but the article indicates that a maximum of 1 camera can be streamed in Web View by the user with shared access, and then only if that user’s account doesn’t already subscribe to a plan. That seems like a weird artificial limitation, because the way I read those two points they’re saying that a shared-access user without a subscription has the potential for a better Web View experience (can view 1 camera) than a shared-access user with a subscription (can view 0 cameras).

I’m glad @carverofchoice is trying to get some clarification on this. :+1:

Thanks for finding the applicable help article. I think that answered the question. I still think they should make the comparison chart less ambiguous though. What is services sharing if its not actually sharing all the services?

You’re welcome, and I hope that you get a good answer that you’re able to share. I also agree that they have a lot of room for improving the clarity of their public-facing communication, and I’d really like to see that be a focus, because that would demonstrate that they’re trying to be friends with users, I think.

A big thank you to you both for breaking this down and figuring this out.
