Cam Plus Lite and Basic Plan Cloud Changes Starting Shortly 3/14/22

Currently, the only subscription service for the Video Doorbell is Cam Plus. If you already have a Cam Plus subscription for another cam, you can reassign the subscription via the Wyze app to your doorbell for a test drive. Or you can purchase a new Cam Plus subscription for your doorbell. If you purchase, do not purchase in-app. Purchase from a web browser via the Wyze website and make sure you use the same email address between your Wyze app and Cam Plus subscription.

Ahhhhh! I got it! That did it! Thank you. Perhaps you could condense all of the instructions into one blog so others can avoid what I just went through. I have read through all of the Wyse posted instructions and never found any mention of the piece meal suggestions that I got from this forum. Thanks to those who helped. I hope this process can be more concise for others,

You can’t have Person Detection without recording motion triggered cloud events. The cam detects motion > event is uploaded to the cloud > cloud server processes event looking for person. It has worked this way since AI processing was force-moved from cam firmware to cloud AI years ago when Cam v2 was latest and greatest.

The Person Detection setting has been moved to where it should have been located to start with:

Wyze app Home > cam live stream > cam settings > Event Recording > toggle on Detects Motion > tap "Recording Type - Smart Detection > toggle on “Person Detection”.

If your screens don’t look like the examples above, you need to update your Wyze app version.

To eliminate non-person notifications:

Wyze app Home > cam live stream > cam settings > Notifications > toggle on Notifications > toggle on “Detects a Person” > toggle off “Detects Any Other Motion”.

Cam Plus Lite FAQs just got published on the Support site a few hours ago. The problem with consolidating into one article is it would be cumbersome to those looking for an answer to a specific subset of the subscribe/assign/settings process. The FAQ approach should cover most questions.

Person detection will not toggle on. Just pops up the camplus signup page. I have camplus lite and it was as you said previously. And I had it setup this way. Not sure what’s changed but app does not accept the PD toggle and notifications does not offer the person only anymore.

Both cams are showing assigned. I don’t have any others. Both are V2 that had legacy PD. I get the video recording but neither will toggle PD anymore. I had it during the initial switch over but not now.

So I have been a long time user and word of mouth promoter of Wyze products. I have resisted the subscription based solutions for a couple of reasons. I do not want to pay per camera and I do not want to pay monthly. This new Cam Lite is inconvenient, in terms of setup, but probably a necessary line of revenue evil to help offset the cloud costs and privacy state of your solutions. Being in SaaS I can understand that. The new solution takes care of one of my issues which is the per camera cost but it does not solve the monthly billing issue. I would gladly pay an annual subscription for more than the suggested price even, if there was an annual billing option. The fact that you do not have one makes me worry about long term viability of Wyze. I hate monthly billing and will keep Cam Lite at $0 until you have an annual payment offering.

So now we have to pay to see video playback for all cameras separately??
Or settle for a picture…that by the way doesn’t show any activity. I have 6 cameras and there’s no way I can pay that. So I now have useless cameras because your picture clips are not security enough for me. God forbid something happens around my home.

I bought 6 cameras. Now i feel unsafe and absolutely exposed!! You took my video clips away unless i pay??!! I paid when i bought these!! How can you change the rules after 1.5yrs?? I want a refund so i can go with a company i trust.

Hi Wyze,

I am a long-time customer with 40 installed cameras in 2 locations. Your service change was not authorized by me. I expect to receive very short event videos as was the policy when I purchase and installed the 40 cameras.

I also use NEST cameras at the same location and pay about $100 for an entire year with unlimited cameras and event recording.

I am NOT going to pay $20 per camera ($800) for almost the same service with Wyze.

Please fix your policy or I will convert everything and everyone I know back to NEST cameras.

Also, the “Playback” button does not work on the app. It goes only to the Live Stream about 80% of the time.

Cam Plus Lite will give you back the 12 second videos and it costs nothing. You just have to opt in for it and when it asks what you would like to pay put $0

I’m beginning to think a large percentage of Wyze customers have an aversion to reading.

I have been responding, with very similar wording as your post, on Reddit for the past month+. It’s getting worse over the past 2 days.

The landfills will be overflowing with Wyze products if the Reddit folks follow though with their threats. :smile:
