Does Cam Pan V4 still not have time lapse recording available? I just purchased two v4 cam pans. The option is there to do a time lapse, but no file is saved. I saw there was an update back in December that supposedly added time lapse…but i cannot get it to work. Any help is appreciated.
I remember seeing the Beta firmware announcement in December about the addition of the Timelapse feature. I’m not finding a Wyze News announcement for the production release, but the Release Notes & Firmware page says it was released in early January. I usually wait to see community reports here before updating firmware, primarily because of a Video Doorbell v2 issue a couple of years ago. I finally updated my Cam Pan v4 firmware yesterday to 4.70.1.3311.
I just tried a short time lapse for grins and got it to work as expected. It set correctly for the configuration I gave it (10 minute duration, 6 second snapshot frequency) and was available in the Album after the end time. It downloaded and played without incident.
What detail can you provide about what’s not working for you? Is anything time lapse related being recorded to the microSD card? When I pull the card, I see a time_lapse subdirectory in the root with a time_Task_########## (where ########## is 10 digits) subdirectory within that. In that sub-subdirectory is a record.h265 file, which is the actual video file, along with some configuration files. Do you see anything like that written to the card?
When I try to download my timelapse video it goes so slow then about 1/4 through the download I get a network error message flash on the screen and the download goes away. This is on a wyze cam og.
Is there anyway to get my timelapse?
What you describe seems like you’re experiencing some kind of network glitch during the downloading/transcoding process, and that’s frustrating because there seems to be no sort of facility for partial download recovery for a failed time lapse download, so you just have to start over. I also find that it’s necessary for me to keep my phone awake/unlocked and showing the download screen while downloading time lapse videos on Wyze Cams, and the files themselves are often quite large, so the download takes a while, which provides more opportunity for error. It seems like this could/should be a background process with some improvements to robustness and integrity checking.
If repeated download attempts are failing, then I’d see what I could do to improve the Wi-Fi signal for both the camera and the phone, especially during the time of downloading. If the Cam OG is easily accessible, you could also just pull the microSD card from the Cam, pop it into a PC, and retrieve the raw video file as described above. (I think on Cam OG it might be a record.h264 file. That’s what I recall seeing on Cam v4, and I don’t know if I’ve ever pulled one directly off a card from a Cam OG, but it’s something I could try later, if requested.) That file should play in something like VLC media player, and you could use something like VLC, FFmpeg, or other software (maybe HandBrake?) to transcode it to .mp4, which I think is the format of the completed time lapse when the download to the phone actually succeeds.
I’d also make sure your Wyze app and Cam OG firmware are current, because Wyze occasionally includes connectivity improvements in their updates as they find and fix bugs.
