My understanding of Cam Pan v3 is that its L-shaped connector in the base was somewhat unusual and a pain point for many users, particularly for those wanting to use third-party USB cables that were longer than what Wyze provided with the Cam, and that’s one of the rationales they used for adding the pigtail-type connector to Cam Pan v4. Apart from using a USB-C connector instead of micro-B, that follows the pattern of several other Wyze Cam models: (non-Pan) Cam v4, (non-Pan) Cam v3, Cam OG (Standard), and Cam OG Telephoto. Those all have a pigtail extending from the back of the camera that the power cable from the adapter plugs into.
If you purchased your Cam OG this year, then that might explain why it has no pigtail. I’ve seen on the Release Notes & Firmware page that there’s a separate entry for “Wyze Cam OG (2025 Version)”, and Cam OG’s product page is also indicating that there’s an older model and a 2025 model. I last purchased Cam OGs (including Telephoto) last year, so those are the older model, and all have the pigtail with the USB micro-B female connector.
This is where details matter, and it’s important to differentiate between (non-Pan) Cam v4, which uses a micro-B connector, and Cam Pan v4, which uses USB-C. The older Outdoor Power Adapter works with Cam v4. The newer “Universal” adapter works with Cam v4 (and includes appropriate short adapter cable for that) and Cam Pan v4 (without an adapter cable). They’re both listed on the same product page, so I imagine that can be confusing, especially at 4:00 a.m.
A lot of users complained about this when Cam v4 was released last year, so you’re not alone in thinking that. As far as Cam OG goes (even with the new model I’m seeing it list a micro USB port), I think that’s a matter of cost savings, which I believe has always been one of the primary goals with that particular camera model.
Like I said before, if you just recently got the wrong version of the Outdoor Power Adapter that doesn’t work with Cam Pan v4 and you want to use that for power outdoors, then I’d be inclined to contact Wyze Support for an exchange. If, on the other hand, your electrical connections are all going to be indoors and protected from the elements except for plugging a male USB-C connector into Cam Pan v4’s female pigtail, then I don’t think using the included indoor power adapter is a problem, and you might be able to just use a regular extension cord to get the adapter closer to your soffit hole so that you can use the original USB cable that shipped with the Cam Pan v4. That’s probably what I’d look at doing.
