Cam OG Warning: Stand Is Useless; Mount Is Nonstandard

I wish ALL cameras had the same event viewing setup/options. I hate going between the smooth V3 version and the crappy OG version.

I bought 2 OG cameras. Both have a mounting bracket that only allows for mounting the camera on a wall as both have the threaded screws in a fixed non-moveable position so that the camera can only be mounted facing up or down with no adjustment possible. As you can see in the attached photos, both are positioned at nearly identical angles although they are off by about 2 degrees from 90 degrees. Here’s why something is wrong with this situation.

The OG instruction booklet shows (see the

images) that the cameras can be mounted on a ceiling or a wall. That cannot be true as the bracket only allows for 1 possible mounting position. It cannot be used to mount on a ceiling which is the way I need to mount both cameras. The proof is in your own instruction manual. If you tell me your engineers are telling you that the brackets were intended to be used in only 1 way, either they are wrong or the instructions are wrong. This needs to be resolved!

That top screw is on a ball joint you can see that at the top in your images. here:

If its a new camera, it may be slightly hard to move for its initial time. I would screw the camera onto the mount, then give ever increasing pressure to “stand up” the camera on the mount into the ceiling or upright configuration.

The opposite of what they are doing here at the time code of 00:20

Omgitstony, thank you for that tip. The resistance to move the ball joint is much more than “slightly hard” to move. Frankly, it’s to the point that I was convinced that it would break the piece entirely forcing it to move. Without your tip to screw on the camera to the mount, I was ready to return the two cameras. I transmitted this complaint as posted to the Wyze tech support people and got back a reply that was the equivalent of “that’s the way it’s supposed to be according to the engineers”. I’ve never seen a ball joint that would not move….this was the first. Even with the camera screwed onto the thread, the amount of force to move it is significant and considerably more than was expected. I’m sure I’m not the first to encounter this.

As for now, all is good.

Thank you.
