I have two Cam OGs that recently stopped notifying in the app for sound events only. Motion events trigger push notifications without issue.
I have toggled all settings on and off, the cameras’ firmware is up to date on both. I have restarted my phone (hard software reboot, not just power cycle), and done the same for the WiFi. Wyze app is up to date from the App Store (iOS).
Not sure what to do because they are in my kids’ rooms and they will be hollering overnight and I only wake up because they’re screaming…not getting any sound event triggered notifications at all, and it’s really a problem. It used to work without issue and nothing changed. It just suddenly stopped on both cameras. Help!
I don’t recall an exact time or even that would have triggered the change, but it happened months ago and has not worked since. It seems to me like something must have changed with a firmware update, because I have two older Wyze cams (V2 and V3) and they both still alert for sound events. All of the settings in the app are the same across cameras and have not changed from when the sound event notifications worked without issue several months ago.
Same here! I have multiple Wyze Cam V3Pr’s and a couple of V4s. Motion detection push notifications have suddenly stopped for all the cameras since yesterday. I wonder if there has been a major update that alters receiving push notifications without having to subscribe? I hope not.
Sound events are being recorded and logged, but I am only getting push notifications to my phone for motion and not the sound events. And overnight the sound notifications are what I need to receive (kids yelling for a parent).
This is a weird one, but the short story is that I was able to trigger a “Sound Detected” event and notification on a Cam OG (original version with v1.0.98 firmware) running the production Wyze app v3.9.0.739 on a phone running Android 13. I don’t use iOS, so I can’t test that.
Since I’m using a Cam Unlimited subscription, I didn’t even see sound notifications as an option when I navigated to Settings ➜ Notifications ➜ Manage, because that took me to the Customize Recordings screen. I had to change Settings ➜ Event Recording ➜ RECORDING PREFERENCES from Smart Detection Events to All Events so that I could get to the Customize Detections screen. Then I could enable notifications for Other Sounds (Cam OG doesn’t currently support “smart” sound detections). After setting that, I clapped loudly near the Cam and received a notification within seconds.
I tried changing RECORDING PREFERENCES from All Events back to Smart Detection Events and testing again, but I didn’t receive any “Sound Detected” notifications when I did that. I seem to have to have All Events selected and then verify that notifications are enabled for Other Sounds before I can receive any notifications of sound events.
I also noticed that there appears to be a 5-minute cooldown between Sound Detectednotifications and that a generic “Complete Motion Detected” event seems to be able to interrupt that and reset the timer. That’s not something I would expect with a subscription use, even if I have Event Detection set for All Events. I unchecked NOTIFY for Other Motion so that I wouldn’t receive “Complete Motion Detected” events/notifications, but I still seem to have a 5-minute cooldown between Sound Detected events and notifications.
I’ve been seeing odd behavior with Cam OGs with this most recent production app update anyway, though: Often when I tap a Cam OG’s tile on the app’s Home screen (either on the Favorites tab or from within a group), the app hesitates for a moment, then shows a black screen, then kind of hangs. If I leave it alone (a looooong wait), I get an Android warning that “Wyze isn’t responding” with Close app and Wait options. If I Close app, then the app returns to the Home screen instead of closing. What I’ve often been doing instead when I see the hesitation and/or black screen is immediately swiping the app closed and then tapping its launcher icon again to get back into it. That usually lets me do what I want to do with that Cam OG…until the app flakes again.
I didn’t see any mention of whether @aegeiser is using a subscription, and I think @qwartiz_665’s issue is different and unrelated.
I do have a subscription and I didn’t even realize anything had changed—had no idea about the “smart notifications”. As soon as I changed the setting back to “All Events” and turned the camera on, I immediately got a sound notification pushed to my phone.
You’re welcome! I’m glad that was helpful, and I appreciate your taking the time to post follow-up.
I don’t know if anything has actually changed with Cam OG’s UI for this or not. I think this is more a matter of how the app (even for other Cams) shows a difference between the Customize Recordings (when a subscriber has Smart Detection Events selected) and the Customize Detections (when All Events is selected) setting screens. I don’t actually use notifications for sound detections a lot—with Cam OG or other Cams—so I can’t say if this is any sort of recent change or not.
I think this does illustrate a potential benefit to not subscribing, because when a non-subscriber tries to select Smart Detection Events I believe the app prompts the user to subscribe. In that case, remaining a non-subscriber means that only All Events is a workable choice, which means that Customize Detections will be shown to the user instead of Customize Recordings, and the user will have the ability to select or deselect notifications for Other Sounds.
I still don’t know why there’s an apparent 5-minute cooldown between sound notifications even with a subscription. I wouldn’t expect that to be the case.
Incidentally, I have SOUND DETECTION SENSITIVITY for that test Cam OG set at 80, and I left it running even after reporting on my testing yesterday. When I happened to sneeze later within a few feet of the Cam, I received a notification almost immediately.
In my case, notifications were actually muted at the camera level in the Wyze app.
Go to Home → open the camera Live View and check the bell/mute icon in the top-right. Mine was muted (I don’t remember doing it). Once I toggled the bell back ON (unmuted), motion/sound push notifications started working immediately again.
Note: Events were still recording in the Events tab the whole time — only push notifications were suppressed because of that mute toggle.
Actually the notifications were muted in the Wyze app. Somehow the bell icon in the top-right was muted. I don’t remember toggling it off at all. Anyway, once I toggled the bell back ON, all push notifications started working again
