I only use rat bait in little cups around our vehicles inside the garage. If a rodent makes it into my garage I want to keep them away from my vehicles. So far the cat in the above video is doing a great job keeping rodents out.
My fear with that is the bait (whether poison or PB in traps, etc) could actually attract them into the garage. The poison bait takes hours to work so they could do plenty of damage in the meantime, and then get back out and snatched up by an owl and kill that too. Whether that line of thinking is correct or not, I don’t know, just don’t want to risk attracting them in. I suppose nothing is certain when it comes to these little bastards.
Peppermint oil spray works very well, you just have to remember to reapply it frequently. Bags or cups of Peppermint Altoids work too, seems to last a bit longer than the spray but they lose their scent in the air relatively quickly too.
Maybe a home brew electrocution mat surrounding the car. Just gotta remember to shut it off before walking/driving across it

So, gaslighting and patronizing is the response from the forum maven? hmmmmm
Surprised you didn’t throw mansplaining in there, might as well get all the current trendy buzzwords in.
Great advice, thanks. So far no signs of living or dead rodents inside my garage.
I don’t see any gaslighting. The initial post does read like rhey were trying to get resolution for an animal chewing the wiring. No mention of any other issue was made. I think @carverofchoice response was fair.
I think that’s a valid observation, and it reminds me of another recent topic with polls. I don’t know if the problem lies with training, policy, culture, or something else, but I’ve frequently been frustrated with my Wyze Support interactions, so I definitely understand why this is an issue for you.
That’s been part of my own frustration, too: I feel like there isn’t a single point of contact who is empowered to take ownership of a customer’s issue and see it through to some point of resolution. Having multiple Wyze Wizards handle a single ticket also feels like an inherently inefficient process, especially for a knowlegeable consumer who’s capable of explaining an issue in detail, because…
- It’s necessary for each new person to the case to read the history in order to become familiar with the problem.
- It often becomes clear very quickly that the new person handling the ticket either hasn’t read the previous questions/concerns or hasn’t responded to them in a meaningful way (or at all) that moves toward resolution of the issue.
So then you feel like you’re repeating yourself with each ticket response just to get someone up to speed. It’s exhausting.
I’ve said so before:
I will say that I’ve had some positive interactions with Wyze Support recently, and they replaced my Video Doorbell v2 under warranty with no hassle at all, but I did interact with 4 different Wyze Wizards on the way toward that (during the back-and-forth troubleshooting phase, and that doesn’t count the initial response from the “Wyze-E” Wyze Wizard, which I assume is AI-based). Sometimes the people you get just don’t seem to understand the situation, though, and that seems to be the luck of the draw (and I also suspect a training issue), so there’s definitely room to improve the consistency of the support service.
I don’t have any resolution for you, but I empathize with your experience.
Not sure why you embed those nice links in posts, Private Craven. Nobody ever reads 'em (save me.)
That’s okay, Sir. I feel like I’m being more useful if I can use the power of the Web to direct people toward other relevant resources.
As you were. (I wish )
Not to go too off topic, but I have bird feeders (Not Wyze/camera connected) just a regular bird feeder on a pole. I had a lot of squirrels climbing the pole to get to the bird food. I simply put the pole “inside” of a metal Slinky. “Yes, the slinky toy we played with as a kid”. And attached the top of the slinky to the bottom of the bird feeder and let the slinky hang down with the pole inside it. Now, when a squirrel tries climbing the pole, they grab onto the slinky and it springs them back down to the ground where they let go. It’s actually fun watching a squirrel try and climb up a slinky. They can’t do it. Now, the birds no longer have any threats when they fly in for food. I’m sure I could come up with a similar solution for a hanging bird feeder, but I don’t have any of those.
If you ever record that on video (whether another Wyze cam, or your phone, etc), please share in some post somewhere. That sounds absolutely enjoyable to watch!
That’s great and inventive. I might try that just for the entertainment value.
If the squirrels get wise, I’ll put some jelly on the slinky about have way up to entice them. But this doesn’t hurt the squirrel because they come down gently. But you can see they aren’t stupid. They continue trying to find a way up.
It’s unfair to blame Wyze for squirrel damage given how we know squirrels like to chew.
I wrapped Christmas lights down my front steps wrapping it around the top and bottom of the handrail. A squirrel or squirrels took EVERY single light and cut each off so cleanly that it looked like wire cutters.
I managed to look out the window and catch the last light bulb disappear on my iPhone. I didn’t see them take the top ones. However, over the years we keep finding the coloured bulbs outdoors. Most long gone.
I gave the video to a neighbour whose sister believe someone with a person with a wire cutter was taking her lights. Now she knows.
I like squirrels, they chewed through my AT&T land line (Phone) and no more Robo Marketing or scammer calls until AT&T climbed the pole to fix the line.
Landline? What’s that?
Just kidding! I used to work for a landline telecom company during their death spiral toward obscurity. They required us to still try to convince people to get an Unlimited long distance plan even though everybody had a cell phone that included long distance at no extra cost. That was around the days when they started doing these big bundle things and you could only get the biggest discounts if you also had a landline and unlimited long distance with your other stuff like internet and TV. So a lot of people only had a land line and long distance just so they can get the bundle discounts even though they would never use it.
I have gen Z and Alpha family members who don’t even know what a landline is. We are basically archaic now. I’m half surprised all of the ma bell companies haven’t gone bankrupt yet.
AT&T tried to bail out off the land line business here in California and the hit the fan with the public so it is still around for the future especially in rural areas. I don’t use their long distance service but I keep the line for my technically challenged wife. I finally got her to use her cell for long distance and international calls.
I still have an old push button phone I can plug into the outdoor phone box to test the line to see if any problems are with the internal or external lines, no electric power required for that old phone.
My 94 year old Dad gave up his land line so I figured I might as well do the same. Control of phone spam is so much easier.
