Brand new installed outdoor cams set won't work in rain

Well you can do a nasty review if that floats your boat but the WYZE Cam Outdoor is not supposed to be plugged into anything outdoors, voids the warranty. Yes many folks here have them plugged into constant power, solar power and any other DIY device you can come up. I don’t think WYZE is going to give you any satisfaction if you want a refund or new cams. They are battery operated cams for a reason. Call support at 1-844-999-3226 and tell them you had your Battery operated cams plugged in and they got water in them, You will not like their response :upside_down_face:


I ran my WCOs on Wasserstein solar since February in the central WA state Cascades. Not a problem with the amount of snow and rain we get here.

Your entire post is very confusing. Wyze does not offer solar chargers. It is also not clear what wifi extender you purchased, and what that has to do with connecting to the base station?

Your post makes it seem like you ordered some type of package from Wyze???

As for a 3rd party solar charger, very few are designed to charge a device efficiently while the device is operating. In most cases, you must turn your device off for a solar charger to charge it. The solar chargers tend to charge slower than what devices consume.

Next, it is not clear how you were integrating the 3rd party wifi extender.

Also confused about the Cat6 cable. What is it doing for you? None of the Wyze cameras officially support PoE yet and you didn’t mention specifically how you are powering the cameras.

Maybe this isn’t about Wyze cameras?

A little off topic but the Wasserstein only charge when their internal battery in panel is charged up and then they charge the WCO. They give a 30-40% charge when they kick off. It is advised to connect to a fully charged camera as well as a fully charged solar panel. If you have good sun exposure you won’t need to recharge the WCO from a wall outlet again.

Suggestions for the other Antonius. Purchase a couple of V3 cameras, they are powered and good for outdoor use if connected correctly. You need to keep the power source(s) (Plug/plugs) either inside or in a weather proof cover. I do not think you you will find one that works with a 100 foot run though unless your are running 120 Volt AC most of the way before connecting the base/extender and cams. All your electrical sources need to be water tight. Just a thought.

Keep an eye out for an Amazon review with the same ingredients. Maybe we can figure out if he used Wyze cameras, or what the Cat6 was for. :slight_smile:

Maybe he ran the 100 foot Cat 6 ethernet cable out the window from his router, put his base in the middle of the yard and then used the extender to boost the signal more??

If you search Amazon there are a few other’s Solar Panels. Wyze did not respond if your Warranty is Void…yet the Wyze site FAQS said NOT to use a continues charger.

If you look around the forum you will find numerous different rigs that people have used to use solar and continuous power for the WCO. I just think your chances of complaining to WYZE about water in a WCO with that set up will get you zero results. It would be different if WYZE made and sold the items like solar panel chargers which maybe they will do in the future.

Wyze’s co-founder in a recent Q&A did say they would be rolling out solar panels for the WCO soon.

I used the enclosures that @cohibajoe shared the link to. Between the weatherproof camera connectors on the solar panel cable and enclosing the whole camera and connector inside a weatherproof enclosure, there’s no way water is getting inside the camera with that redundancy. I’m pretty confident that my power washer would blow the enclosures off my house before water enters the cam.

@cohibajoe I could see them advising you to not keep the cameras on the 5V 2A power supplies continuously due to overcharging the batteries and never giving them a chance to discharge. With the solar panels, the batteries get some exercise at night and during rainy or overcast days when the panels aren’t making power.
