Beta Testing for Wyze Cam v3 RTSP Firmware Now Available!

The V3 provided with the Garage Door Opener is a standard V3 with a Shielded Cable from the camera. The original is a flat cable whereas the Garage Door one is a Shielded rounded Cable. The shielding is there to minimize interference with your Car or remote to open the garage door.

Hi, I know I am late in the game, and I scoured this thread, but does anybody have a link to the demo_wcv3.bin file? I asked support and the beta has completed and they purged the file.

Thanks in advance!!

Download the demo_v3_RTSP_4.61.0.1.zip. Rename the file inside to
demo_wcv3.bin when you save it to your microSD card.

edit: This is replying to a post above about getting RTSP working alongside the Garage Controller:

I tried this, but it did not work. I installed demo_v3_RTSP_4.61.0.1.zip as demo_v3.bin, and RTSP functionality appeared, but then the previously-installed Garage Controller would not work. Clicking on the “Controller” button resulted in no effect.

I deleted the camera and added it back to m Wyze app, but then I could not add the controller. Clicking “I have one installed” results in the "Uh oh . . . Something is wrong . . . " error.

I reflashed it o 4.36.9.139, and now the Controller is working again (phew!) but of course I don’t have RTSP.

Does anyone here have RTSP working along with the Garage Controller?

Any updates about RTSP for V3? On the support website the link is still unavailable (I downloaded it from the web archive) I hope they didn’t abandon this project.

Was dead the day it was announced. Just never received a proper burial.

That said, there are several other projects (hacks) that have taken it to the next level if you’re of a mind to explore them. Wz_Mini on GitHub has gained the most traction.

The RTSP firmware is from a MUCH earlier version and does not include the functionality for the garage door opener and many other features. The wz_mini hack (GitHub - gtxaspec/wz_mini_hacks: wz camera mods... make your camera better.) suggested by @pogesmit has RTSP functionality and works with the standard Wyze firmware for the V3.

Thanks for the link to GitHub. Is there a place to learn more about installing and using it? Maybe a beginner’s guide?

The main page has the readme file contents which is really all the documentation available.

There’s also the general discussion area that covers most topics to one extent or another. It takes a little time to get familiar with the setup, but is fairly intuitive after a little trial and error navigation.

Contrary to how it may appear at first glance, the project is actually pretty Windows friendly ((if that happens to be your platform). Otherwise, you’ll be right at home over there anyway.

Be more than happy to assist here until you’re more familiar with the GitHub flow.

Thank you very much! Yes, I am running Windows 11. I have started reading some of the posts and readme file. I do have a question about the microSD card, all of my 8 cameras, 6 Cam3’s and 2 PanV1’s have 32GB cards in them. I take it these will be fine to install this on and will still record to the card after I get this up and running? I did just order a 256GB card that should be arriving in 3 weeks (disadvantage of living in a remote town in the Andes mountains in Colombia) that I am hoping to get many more day’s of recording before overwriting.

The 32s will more than suffice for the wz_mini component. Not sure how much real estate remains for recordings – or if the SD card can still even be used easily for recording and retrieval via the Wyze app. Not my area of experience there as I use Blue Iris as my main platform and have very little need for the Wyze app itself aside from its basic utility of reviewing the device info, managing network info, resetting the device, etc.

I know there have been new developments on a few levels regarding additional remote “over the air” camera management, but I haven’t been keeping up of late.

As for living in a remote town in the Andes mountains of Columbia…, I can also think of an advantage or two…, in a previous life of course. LOL

I have played around with firmware hacks for decades, but I am no expert. I guess my biggest concern is what vulnerabilities could you be introducing with wz_mini? Could it have and nefarious connectivity. I am using gogogate now controlling two doors, but my router keeps showing me that it is pinging 25-20 ip addresses 100s of times a day. Even though I have this on an isolated network, I still just want to phase it out for something that is just as easy and provides information such as door is left open, when it is opened and closed, etc. I have a lot of devices that are Wyze and I have a Synology NAS that I prefer to use with RTSP on most of my Wyze Cameras. I still am buying some of their services for notifications and storage, but I really want certain cameras setup so I can go back any day or time and look. Thank you!

You have root access to the entire camera when using wz_mini, not just to the hack on the SD card. Anything “nefarious” would be completely within your control to the extent of your ability to identify and mitigate such conditions. The current security hole is the web interface on port 80. Simply disable it.

Are you now using the Wyze RTSP beta 4.61.0.3 firmware?

Yes, that is the firmware on my other V3s, but I haven’t tried on my Spotlight because I did not want to lose the spotlight capabilities.

It appears that it’s been removed from their website for now with no timeline for next steps.

RTSP was considered a beta feature and we are currently assessing the path forward as the firmware versions have aged quite a bit. We have removed the firmware files for these versions for now and we’ll update the pages when plans are finalized. Please note that firmware files take a while to work on and test so you may not see an update in the near future. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This has been the ongoing excuse for years. Sadly I don’t think it will ever change.

Go here and don’t look back.

Hi HowardP.
the one i found for V3 is demo_v3_RTSP_4.61.0.1.zip
and this one for V2 demo_V2_RTSP_4.28.4.41.zip
i downloaded them from Wyzecam.com. Took me a lots of research on the web to find it.
My question is the following, once you have the RTSP FW installed does the camera still record on the SD card?
I want to setup a close circuit CAM in my Hotel room in Cuba but we dont have internet. I will be using a mini router to provide a local LAN . Also when CAM flashed with RTSP can it be seen on the Wyze app when we have internet?
I am hesitant to flash one of my V3 or V2. Can we bring them back to Wyze FW.
thanks your answer.
