Been out of it

I broke my right femur Sunday. MrsG likes to ride her bicycle but her legs aren’t strong enough to make it over the bridges on the trails. So I found an e-bike on Amazon that folds. I put it together and rode it all around our neighborhood for about 30 minutes to make sure it was ok. She wanted to try the bike path at a local park. She rode for about 30 minutes and had fun. I got on the bike, hit the throttle and it fell over on me. The frame landed on my right femur. I tried to get up because it didn’t hurt then I still had my hand on the throttle and it took off again, knocked me down and landed on my right femur again. Paramedics stood me up and my left foot was pointing forward and my right foot was making a hard right. Ambulance took me to the hospital. Had to wait until my bp raised. They put a titanium rod in me. Got discharged Wednesday and hurt like heck. I am doing much better now. MrsG is a saint. I’m using a walker. The pain at rest is about a 1 and it’s just tight getting up and down. The bike has 14” wheels so it is unstable at low speeds. Also I am not as young as I once was and need to stay off things that can hurt me.

Here is the bike:

Ouch. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:, dude! Feel better.

Sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself

Yikes. How long is your estimated recovery?

Femur fractures are not fun (can be fatal). Glad it went pretty well for you.

Hope you feel better soon.

I don’t think they make replacement parts for you anymore but Titanium works as a good after market part. I have a titanium plate in my left knee that’s been there for 27 years  . I have a set of crutches and a walker stashed here someplace just in case.

Get well soon and keep moving as much as you can to prevent any blood clots from forming, I know from experience.

Tom, get well soon. Be sure to follow your Physical Therapy instructions. PT should speed up your recovery.

Jeez, forget me already.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Too content-rich to skip.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. The prostate cancer has spread to my lungs. I have several things that are 18mm. Been getting injections in my stomach and just started Nubeqa. That drug is $20000. Medicare pays for all of it except for $1000. That is still a chunk. The oncologist’s nurse found a grant that pays for the rest. I start chemo next week. And the hip is much better. The knee on that side has been bone on bone and messed up for years, so it gives out once in a while. PT has to modify the exercises because of the knee. I am probably going to need knee surgery eventually.

Here is what I look like now

The lower screw keeps the large pin from moving. The other screw looks like it attaches the femur to the pelvis. I know cars not bodies

Overall my mood is good Im taking several happy pills like Fluoxetine, Methocarbamol, and Trazodone.

I check in less often because some of the drugs make me loopy or tired.
thanks again, everyone I hope to pull through this.

That would be unusual, as that would lock two bones together and freeze the joint. It looks to me like the superior screw is also helping to anchor the rod and strengthening the connection from the femoral body across the neck and into the head, but it’s difficult to say with only the AP view. I know a few things about bodies.

That’s good to know, especially given all you’re dealing with. That’s a rough road.

I would expect that, especially from the trazodone.

I appreciate your taking the time to update and am glad to see that your mood is good and that you’re getting some rest. Take care of yourself.
