Battery Cam Pro - Does Not Recognize SD Card

I have 2 Wyze Battery Cam Pros that will not recognize the SD Card. I have followed the guidance from the Chatbot as well as the online guide. Here’s the highlights:

  • SD Card formatted on my computer for Extended FAT (Card is 128G)
  • My phone app is up to date
  • My cameras have the latest firmware update
  • I have gone through the factory reset / setup twice
  • The cameras are set to record events

I have other Wyze cameras that work fine with the SanDisk SD cards I purchased. They work “flawlessly”.

I’m struggling to understand with the two Battery Cam Pros are not able to record - they do NOT even acknowledge that an SD card is in the slot. And yes, the SD Card is inserted correctly.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Brad

What Sandisk cards are you using, type/model? Regular or endurance cards? I have 4 BCP’S and use Sandisk High Endurance cards. No issues recording to the cards also for events. I never record continuance. Firmware version on the cams; 1.4.4.5013 or 1.4.3.4543?

This does not turn on SD card recording. You have to set Settings⇾Micro SD Card⇾Record to Micro SD card.

Thanks for the feedback – the unit does not recognize the SD card so I can go to the area you mentioned (Settings > Micro SD Card and the toggle switch for “Record to MicroSD Card” is grayed out. It’s inactive and not available.

@p2788deal - The recording options cannot be set unless Record to sdcard is toggled on. They are hidden. So for @bradlyathome to know it’s set to events, it must be on/set.

But as stated in his followup, the toggle is grayed out because the presence of an sdcard is not being recognized and the options are not displayed.

I have San Disk Ultra Micro SDXC UHS-1 – 128G.

I purchased the same cards (at the same time) for the Wyze Cam Pan v4 and they work fine – no issues at all.

The FW version on the Battery Cams is 1.4.5013; all of my Wyze Cams show to be “up to date” on the FM version.

, it is a common occurrence for sdcards not to be universally recognized between cameras. I have a cam pan v3 that will not recognize a sandisk high endurance card but does recognize a Team and Lexar standard card. Have you tried ejecting and inserting the card back to back multiple times to see if the camera will recognize it? As a last resort, you should get a couple inexpensive cards from Amazon, U3 types and see if they work. Otherwise, hope you are still within the 1 year warranty timeline and can get replacements.

Thank you for the info! I have power cycled and done the factory reset several times. I’ve tried going through the “initial” set up with & without the SD Card inserted. Thus far, I have not been able to get it to “recognize” the card.

I purchased 2 Wyze SD cards tonight; if they do not work I will call Wyze. And yes, I’m within the 1 year window. Thanks again for your help!!

Just a hunch, maybe try pushing in the SD cards a bit harder? If the cards aren’t fully seated, they can’t be detected.

FYI - You should never perform a set-up or factory reset with a card in the camera. It is a good way to corrupt the card and not be able to recover it even with a format.

Good to know! Thank you!

I got new SD cards and installed them without doing the factory reset. The cards were recognized and everything is working correctly now. Apparently, you can corrupt an SD Card if it is installed AND you do a factory reset/setup. Thanks for the help/ideas!!

Two basic sdcard no no’s:

  1. Never remove sdcard without first doing a safe eject.
  2. Never install, reinstall, reset or factory reset with sdcard in the device.

Good to know your issue has been resolved.

Would a full “Overwrite” format with SD Memory Card Formatter potentially restore the corrupt cards to usefulness? Seems like it might be worth trying as a background task in a PC.

Welcome to the Forum, @bradlyathome!

Good question. I’ll see if I can find 1 in my miscellaneous drawer. If so, I’ll try the full overwrite and report the results.

I did find a corrupted 32gb that failed with Windows 11. Loaded the sd card formatter software and proceeded with a full overwrite format. The sdcard did get successfully formatted and is now recognized by my Windows 11 pc.

Hopefully, this will benefit users with corrupted sdcards as long as they do not mind waiting thru the long procedure of a full overwrite process.

I haven’t tried it on smaller cards, but doing a format with the --overwrite option (on Linux) definitely consumes a chunk of time on a 256 GB card. That’s why I suggested just letting it run in the background while doing other things (and I kill enough time in the Forum that this isn’t a problem ).

Thanks for the testing and follow-up! :+1:

SBC (Single Board Computers) running a flavor of Linux, are perfect for this.

Thanks! I’ll give that a try on my “corrupted” cards!

Yes, agree fully. 256gb card overwrite was an overnite process on a Windows pc with the formatter software. Not corrupted cards, just cards that were at capacity. Not a multiple card process back to back.
