Battery Cam - Is subscription needed to see video clips when motion detected

I have read the entire website listing for this camera and the only mention of a subscription is for cloud video storage, pet, package, and person recognition. I just received the cameras and upon a motion event, the only thing I get is a snapshot. I do have a SD card installed. I want a short video clip of the event to play back from local storage. I don’t want to subscribe. I would think a “motion detection video camera” should do exactly that out of the box with no subscription. Am I doing something wrong in the setup? Is there a way to get short video clips without a subscription?

I’ll add that i have a Cam V3 that does record short video clips without subcription. I expected the battery cam to do the same.

The event tab is for cloud storage, so there you’ll only get still photos there unless you pay for the subscription. The v3 cameras will use the grandfathered cam plus lite, but they are phasing that out on the newer cameras.

To get videos from the sd card, you open the event from the event tab and click the sd card option that will take you to the recorded event on the sd card. Here’s a screenshot of where you’ll see that:

You can also go to the live view of the camera and you can see a time line at the bottom for events. As seen here:

If you click that sd card button in that view, you’ll get to this screen which is a different version of the event viewer:

I hope this helps!

That helps a lot, thank you!! I’m still disappointed that the SD video is time limited to 20 seconds. It should record as long as there’s movement. My biggest beef is that none of this is disclosed on the website. I appreciate the reply and helpful advice!!

You can change that in the event recording settings. The max is 5 minutes and that’s what mine is set to.

You can also change the cool down, I turned my cool down off.

Unless the problem has been corrected w/o my knowledge, the BCP is failing at events only recordings. You must set recording to continuous to capture video of motion events. Feel free to correct me if this has been fixed.

Can only change that with a subscription. Default is 12 seconds, but it records for 20.

thanks

I’m getting recordings on the sd, and it’s set to events only. You can see them in my screenshots above.

I didn’t realize that was a subscription only setting. Good to know. I bought the subscription just so I didn’t use the battery to view events a couple of years ago back when I had the original outdoor cam.
