AWS Outage Impacting Multiple Wyze Services - 12/15/21

Why would you design your product so that users can’t locally bypass? and be completely dependent on an AWS connection. Major problems with my setup here today with lights and outlets not working.

Just wondering out loud here, but this is the THIRD AWS outage in 7 days. I wonder how hard Wyze is looking at options to not rely fully on them alone?

I couldn’t access even the Wyze App earlier today. Now I can open the app, but still can’t control my Wyze devices. What’s the solution? Just wait?

Interesting to know they sell a “security system” which violates their terms of service.

The light in my Wyze cordless vac is working fine so there’s that….

For the monthly income from CamPlus, without it the cameras only work once every 5 minutes (cool down)

Dependency on AWS & Wyze by design

All of my devices were down this morning and the first thing I did was to look at the WYZE support status page. I saw none, zero, zip of these alerts and have spent half my day trying to get my devices working again. Please be more proactive with service updates to avoid this confusion in the future. I have so many things that depend on the switch schedules that I will be working manually… darn! I have tried to quit everything that has to do with AWS as they have done exactly this kind of thing to me before.

Horrible design and architecture! Think about redundancy and eliminating single points of failure, basic 101 architecture design.

Just letting you know my Christmas lights are not on because of the outage.
AMAZON is a big GRINCH.

Please Update us on outage status.

AWS is huge and is used by huge companies, education, etc. The problem, I wholeheartedly agree, is the fact that their products don’t work without that cloud connection. If they would simply allow control over the local network, it would solve much of this type problem. My concerns over their insistence on maintaining this “always connected” platform stirs my privacy concerns… Why won’t they make that change?..

not just camera probs, outlets and bulbs too.

Do you want the camera to cost $29 or $79? That’s the difference.

Nice - just received a notice in app listed as 3 hours ago saying there are still problems. Simplisafe is looking better and better.

Interesting to know that that AWS doesn’t have redundancy in their systems, or that WYZE doesn’t have Redundancy in their contract.

All roads lead to Amazon. It’s a fact of monopolized life.

Thanks for clarifying that! I have the Beta firmware and have seen the Schedule and Time Of Day settings but figured why use those features if Rules do the job.

I guess this outage is a perfect example of why to use those.

Gee. We have that much faith in AWS? that we can put in no redundancy and a huge single point of failure. I can’t even turn on my lights right now, i’m having to pull the bulbs and outlets. I sure won’t expand my wyze footprint after this.

The thermostat can still be controlled manually if there’s no network, just not via the app.

And the initial setup does require a network (and Wyze working).

My issue was I didn’t know about the outage and assumed (yeah, I know!) from a couple google searches that I needed to reset it so I did so. Then it was no longer available manually.

Had I gotten an email near the start of this I wouldn’t have reset it and could’ve just manually adjusted the temp.

That function is only in the Current plugs. I have more of the originals and they don’t have that function. Haven’t tried it yet as the plugs that do have schedules aren’t ones for which I need it.

One damn notification to the app would have solved all this. I am about done with Wyze and all their half ass working products.
