Yep exactly this
Damn that sucks. I just looked at their website, they want $10 a month for pro. They should at least do what Wyze is doing and let existing customers keep their existing plan.
Is there a decent alternative that works with Wyze?
They are letting existing customers to âpay what they wantâ (min $1.99/month) for the first year, that is exactly what Wyze is doing (aside from the minimum price). I expect they wonât stick with $10/month at the end, itâs way too high for the kind of service they provide. Perhaps theyâll introduce a intermediate tier, or simply lower the price, but I find it hard to believe that theyâll stick to that price in the long run. Theyâll lose too many users
I will not pay $10 a month for the kind of service that they have, my cameras go off line at least five times a day, my sensors sometime donât trigger and my smart lock isnât that smart
They will definitely lose me if they insist on charging me. I think a reasonable price would be $4.99 for people who want more than 10 applets and faster response times. $10 might be worth it for the advanced features, but definitely not for the existing basic applets.
While I appreciate the âpay what you wantâ subscription model and wish more companies would do this, their customers, who are the companies (or services) on the IFTTT platform already paying hundreds of dollars per month just to stay on IFTTT.
By charging users as well as services, theyâre basically double dipping. IFTTT is usually marketed as a feature by IOT device manufacturers, just like Alexa and Google Assistant. Imagine what would happen if Amazon made Alexa a premium feature (even though we already pay with our data).
This is definitely going to backfire on them if they donât reconsider their pricing.
I always wanted to start using Home Assistant, but never got around to it. Now, I have more of a reason to start working on it.
It depends what your current set up is, I use SmartThings and tie WYZE into it, instead of IFTTT I can move most to Alexa and WebCoRE.
Does webcore support location based âroutinesâ and do you need a SmartThings hub to use it?
I donât have any smart home hubs and would like to minimize my reliance on the cloud. Most of my current applets use my phoneâs location via the IFTTT app or my Alexaâs timers and alarms.
My Wyze related applets trigger motion detection notifications when I leave my house, and turn them off when I come home.
I would ultimately like to integrate all my smart devices using HomeAssistant running on an rpi4. I would have to see how location based triggers would act and the overall reliability of a local âhome automation serverâ
I havenât found a way to turn cameras on/off with alexa&webcore. Havre you?
@rodaimi
WebCoRE runs with SmartThings and as far as I know does require the hub. I have not found ways to turn on/off notifications, but I have honestly never tried because I never turn them off.
@D_Van
I havenât and as far as I know it isnât possible but I honestly have not tried since I always have mine running.
It would be great to have access to my Wyze weight and activity data through some sort of developer API (application portable interface).
Could we get a public API for Wyze please? That would allow for integration with SmartThings, Hubitat Elevation, etc. This is especially important now that IFTTT is no longer a free option.
I have up and just use smart outlets to power on/off cameras. Better security than shutting them âoffâ with wize
It sounds like API access is a no go for Wyze Plugs as well.
Sad to watch this company squander so much market share potential.
They are fools.
I also have come looking for a way to integrate Wyze with Hubitat now that IFTTT is no loger free, Iâve moved away from that platform.
Wyze,
Please integrate the ability to use Hubitatâs MAKER API, at mininum. I would like my home to do things again with Wyze triggers!
Appears that Wyze wants you stuck in their ecosystem. We all know this isnât what the consumer wants. Iâm sure if Wyze had some kind of api or external integration they would sell a lot more devices.
Enough time has passed that I have removed all 7 of my cameras. all 12 of my contact sensors and all 4 of my outlet devices.
I give up. Its not happening. I thought they cared. hell they even sent me some neat swag.
I forked out and installed some mainstream wired cameras. Its amazing that if you spend 10 dollars more you can get a POE HD camera that works loads better.
Out of curiosity: what did you get? Looking for a brand that can be easily controlled (take video, reboot, turn motion detection on/off) from a home automation system (ideally Hubitat) without going through IFTTT, and can easily send events to a home automation system (such as event detected), again without paying the IFTTT tax.
I went with some Chinese cameras hooking them up to home assistant.
home assistant kind of a pain in the ass to set up initially but once you get it online there is a bunch of third-party things that allow you to do the same if not more as far as person detection for the cost of $0

@UserCustomerGwen Iâm sorry for posting this but it is truly what I have done Iâve kind of given up on the idea that these cameras will be anything more than just generic consumer products.
I was incredibly hopeful that we could have all these neat firmwareâs to do with all sorts of cool things but it seems like you guys are trying to stay within a mainstream box and itâs not something that I really enjoy being a part of.
I would caution anyone using inexpensive 3rd party cameras, especially which utilize vendors such as HIKVISION - but really any IP camera, to keep them in a separate VLAN from your personal devices and to block all internet traffic from them and only allow them to communicate with the local camera management server.
There are lots of cameras with a happy habit of âphoning homeâ for more purposes than, say, updates, and if you plop them into your regular user VLAN, you could very well be providing a jump box for someone right into your personal network.
