API for Download and Control

I have seen instances of the others selling data, I have seen no evidence of WYZE doing it, so I figured you had some info

Wyze EULA: “Wyze may collect, use and share information about you, including, but not limited to, information about your use of the Licensed Application, Device, system and application software, and peripherals, that is gathered in connection with your access to and use of the Licensed Application.”

Privacy Statement: “Wyze does not sell your personal information. We do allow third parties to collect certain device identifiers and internet and electronic network activity via our Services for advertising purposes”

So although Wyze is protecting your personal information (i.e. name, address) it’s omitting non personal information from this statement and therefore we must conclude that they in fact do.

I am fine with that as long as personal information is private

I would like to add my vote in favor of releasing API. This will make Wyze Cam is much more attractive products. Developers will extend it is many ways not envisioned by manufacturers.
The full set of APIs will include:

  1. Cloud API (via network to cloud servers)
  2. Direct camera API (via direct WiFi connection to the camera)
  3. Android App API (intents)

Please define ‘electronic network activity’. That is a wiggly phrase that could mean anything. Not that I don’t think wyze is not selling what they can. Mightg be one of the ways they are able to sell so cheaply.

Sir if you can do that, in and open source it, then you would be a hero!

well, seems like it probably wont happen. I have changed my focus on improving things they have released. I am not going to hold my breath for an API

Please add an open API, and your products will totally rock it.

Add my top vote for this over anything else.

Would love a public API which would allow integration with control systems like Crestron which would a huge win for everyone.

Voted on this!

The bare minimum here is an API that hits the Wyze cloud, allowing all the same actions that the app currently offers.

I understand that this would still require continuous internet access, and I’m okay with that, as I understand changing that would be a substantial architectural change.

I would REALLY like to utilize the sensor in the watch that can tell if I’m sleeping.
So if I left the garage door open or something it would vibrate the watch and wake me back up! :-p

Another software dev/engineer here; would love an API to bring more offerings to the table.

Absolutely concur, since you obviously opened an API to IFTTT, the same could/should be available to end users!!

Would LOVE to have a proper API. I have been grabbing frames from the RTSP stream but I think there are more elegant solutions. It seems like it would not take much to put this out, so I wonder if the decision not to is more of a company policy decision than prioritization of other activities. If so, I urge Wyze to reconsider. Many of your users are buying this for project use - why not let them use the device to its full potential? I bought mine to replace a Foscam that I had in the garage. I used it to monitor my garage door with a Raspberry Pi. When the garage was left open it would send me a text and an e-mail with pictures of what was happening in the garage when it was opened and the current state. Capturing images from the Foscam was a snap. Getting them from the Wyze Cam has been much more complicated… I don’t see the harm of putting this out.

Very simply, a local API is a must have for the camera to be more than a novelty. The more it is tuned to a use case the less useful it is to me.

I agree. The only thing holding me back from using more products is that they will not work with my existing smart home setup. This would easily be fixed if they had an open API.

Now that IFTTT is essentially useless an accessable API would be very very helpful

The death of IFTTT’s free tier means an API for Wyze is critical. If we don’t get one I’ll be going elsewhere personally - I need to automate control over my cameras.

I think IFTTT is keeping their free tier but just offering advanced applet options for a monthly price.

They wouldn’t eliminate the free plan altogether because they would lose thousands of users, which translates to losing hundreds of customers (services), which is where the bulk of their current revenue comes from.

They are keeping it but have severely crippled it, you now are only allowed to make 3 applets, I currently have 65. This means I will be moving to something else.
