Has anyone had issues with Wyze cam picking up voices on their Wyze camera when recording? Need some advice for someone that is versed in this please!
The cam has a microphone. You can disable sound recording.
Welcome to the forum @cali2tenngirl
Yes, while the audio for a long time overall could use some improvement, the camera microphone does very well picking up low volume sounds in general recording.
For example, my doorbell camera can pick up conversations from my dining room.
My patio camera can pick up conversations and the TV from my living room.
Usually they aren’t intelligible, but you can tell it’s people or a television in conversation.
Are you an expert in these types of things or tech in general? I’m really looking for a clear answer on this recording I have that was from my Wyze cam in my home but I’m having a hard time.
If it doesn’t have anything sensitive or personal you can post it here, but it has been discussed a few other times. That tiny pinhole microphone in the cam can cause it to pick things up really clearly in some directions, and muffled and odd sounding (echoes in the plastic) from others. They obviously have the gain turned way up to be able to pick up sounds from such a small mic surface, so that adds to it.
So far I don’t think I’ve seen any that were unexplained, what people think is the cam picking up bluetooth or cell phone or whatever is usually just that the sound was in range of the mic.
It’s just audio that was picked up but probably not appropriate for this forum. It is in my home with my cam but I’m honestly just trying to find answers from someone who knows these cameras well or tech enough that can help me understand before I lose my mind lol
If you can come up with an example or two that you can post it would really help understanding what you are talking about. If it is real audio from somewhere near the camera, well, yes the camera has a mic. you can disable audio recording with one of the camera settings, or with some of the cameras it is not all that hard to open the camera case and unplug the mic. With those cameras the mic can later be restored. With some of the cameras, the permanent solution is to open the camera case and rip the mic off the PC board. That is far harder to restore later on!
If the answers already provided don’t clear it up, I’m not sure what else can be offered? If you don’t want the camera recording audio, that can be disabled in the settings.
Depends how you define “expert”.
I am a user of Wyze cameras just like you.
I have used Wyze cameras for 6 years, and have 47 Wyze cameras (all variations except the window cam) of the Wyze cameras deployed in or around my home.
My knowledge is based of my useage.
What Ive deduced in those 6 years, there’s a very good chance your camera is not capturing the audio of the after world. (Some users in the forum believe they have)
There is a slight chance that the camera could pick up audio frequencies from a baby monitor or some other device transmitting on open frequencies.
There is a slight chance that someone (bad actor) could have gotten access to your camera and acted inappropriatly with that access if you do not have common security measures in place. If anyone would believe this to be the case I would suggest emailing security@wyze.com for support
There is a very high chance that cameras will hear and record voices in other rooms or the TV that aren’t specifically in the same room as the camera as mentioned above.
Hope this helps
Mostly just Temu ones, even the cheap branded ones have encryption or at least digital encoding now ![]()
Another possibility that can’t be ruled out is someone in the house screwing with you.
