Any ideas of how to use a Battery Cam Pro to deter invasive deer in garden?

I have a Battery Cam Pro (solar powered) that I want to move near garden area to see how ( and when) deer are destroying my garden. (these crappy cams will not hold a charge very long, and never will connect to webview, so I need some other use for them).

Does anyone know how I can combine the Cam with some type of noise maker to scare deer away when detected? Is there a way to use the Cam Siren in this way?

I don’t know about the BCP but on all my wired cams you can either use “motion warning” to say “you are being recorded” or have it turn on the siren when motion is detected.

I think alarms will help.

I agree. How?

2 Options on my wired cams, not positive if the BCP has the same:

In the settings for the camera, go to motion detection → motion warning and enable it. That uses a spoken voice “you are being recorded”

In automations - create one where trigger is motion detected and action is turn on the siren. It will turn off after a while, not sure how long though. You can also set it to turn on the spotlight in the same automation (or just set that to happen under the spotlight settings).

Ok, I discovered the BCP does not have the motion detection/warning settings you mention, however, one can setup an Automation that turns on siren by motion detection. How long the siren stays on is another thing. I will test it. Thanks for the pointers.

I don’t think the motion warning phrase of “you are being recorded” would work anyway. Not sure if my deer speak English.

Yeah, that was the second option I gave. Between those two options and the spotlight, you should be able to find a combo that works for you without being too disturbing. Maybe mix it up from time to time to keep them from getting used to it.

The siren definitely works on deer, as I have used to scare them away when they eat my wife’s flower garden. The siren stays for 30 seconds and then shuts off by itself. Not sure if they’ll get used to the sound and ignore it though. I’m guessing it will depend on what they’re eating and how badly they want it.

I have a different setup…motion sensor and siren from YoLink. The deer seem to be startled, but I wouldn’t call them scared. They move about 10 feet and stop.

I use these to keep rabbits out of my garden. Says they work to repel deer too. Daytime sunlight seems to keep them charged.

You’ll have to outfit the rest of the gang with ear plugs

Not sure where your camera is located but if near a power source you could also have your motion detection turn on a smart plug that you can have a brighter spotlight or other noise making device connected to it

Good idea. What smart plugs or lights can be activated by this Wyze Cam model?

There was a suggestion before to use an inflatable wavy arms man like this, activated by a plug.

I haven’t seen that, but I dig it. It reminds me of Cat trying out for the Olympics, where another user combined Smart Detections on a Cam Floodlight with Automations and a Wyze Sprinkler Controller to deter cats from a flowerbed. The videos are pretty great.

If you’re just setting up Device & Service Triggers in the Automations section of the Wyze app, then pretty much any Wyze Bulb or Plug should be selectable for the Actions section of the Automation, though the Action availability may vary somewhat by device (i.e., devices don’t uniformly support the same Automations Actions, which is a point of frustration for a lot of users). Depending on the use case, location, and what particular effect you’re trying to achieve, a Plug Outdoor may be the thing you’d want to use, but more detail would be helpful. For instance, if you’re using a Battery Cam Pro in that area for the detection, you might not have available AC power nearby for a Plug Outdoor in the first place.

I wish Wyze would alter the siren settings so it the length of time can be adjusted.

I think that’s why we have the Wishlist category!

It’s also been requested as an additional Automations Action:
