Android App (Camera Card) and Outdoor Cam V1 / V2

Dear all,

I do not remember when the Android App has started crashing but the app (removed and reinstalled repeatedly to ensure that the app is clean and up-to-date) keeps crashing whenever I tap the Camera Card for each of my three Outdoor Cams. I wonder if it is my local problem or a known bug of the Android App . . .

Cheers.

What has Wyze Support said when you contacted them?

If this is a new phenomenon that you believe is related to a potential app bug, then I’d be inclined to do this:

  1. Submit an app log.
  2. Create a ticket with Wyze Support where you refer to the Log ID you generated.
  3. Post the same Log ID, a description of the issue, and details of any troubleshooting steps you’ve attempted to the appropriate Wyze News or Beta topic that corresponds with the app version in which you’re seeing this problem.

Thank you very much for your kind message.

While I have been communicating with WYZE Support, I wanted to find that if the other Android users have ever encountered a similar problem.

In the meantime I would like to report that iPhone App on my iPhone DOES NOT crash.

Sincerely,

You’re welcome.

I don’t have any of the older Cam Outdoor models, and the one Android user who comes to my mind for those is @fmills1d, so it’s possible that the mention might solicit feedback. So far, I haven’t seen anyone else report this issue.

I’m glad that you’re not experiencing this problem on iOS, and that does make one wonder if this is an Android-specific app issue. Again, that’d make me curious about which app version(s) you’re using, because if this is a platform- and version-specific bug, then I’d still be inclined to report that in the relevant Wyze News (or Beta) announcement topic.

WYZE App has been crashing on my old Samsung S10 (NOT S10 Plus) running Android OS 12. I will try the app on my newer Samsung S20 (which I have left at the residence of my parents in my home town) in a couple of weeks.

Cheers.

I have 4 outdoor v1’s in service but none see a lot of activity. I am on android and have had no issues with the app crashing. I only have an sdcard in the base station because of the low activity.

However, I will put a card in 1 and test to see what happens. I’ll report results shortly.

Just to make certain we are on the same page, there is no card icon on the v1 home screen. There are icons for record, scheduled recording and take photo and album to view the results of these categories.

I did insert a card and captured some activity which was viewed from the album. The app did not crash with any of my recording or viewing.

Is there a sdcard specific icon/button on the v2 that is not on the v1? Is it possible this is outdoor cam/battery cam pro? If so, I also have 4, there is a sdcard icon/button and there are no issues with app performance on these as well.

BTW, I have annual plus subscription so cloud events will appear and be accessible.

My first thought after reading what you have experienced
All the Outdoor cams, are they powered by the same electrical outlet?

If there was bad weather, and a local lighting strike, it can do damage to any an all electronics, including memory cards.

What I would try, is to place 1 new memory card in one of the 3, and see if that addresses the issue.
If it does, then you have a good idea that the issue could have been cause

Outdoor cams v1, v2 & BCP (battery cam pro) are not normally electric powered. They are native battery powered or solar panel powered. You can remove the battery and power the BCP’s electrically with 5v/2a wall adapters. Solar panels keep the batteries charged or you operate them just on batteries.

Not understanding where your thought of all being powered off the same electrical outlet comes into play.

Me Bad, I was thinking indoor cams, installed in Outdoor Cam housings. where they would/could be powered off the same electrical line, ( which could have multiple outlets on the same line) I mistakenly took the post as that was the case. Clearly the electrical risk/issue would not applied to battery based cams.

Me bad
The only way it lighting would affect electronics ( or cams) would be if the outdoor BCP were plugged in, using the power adapter.

Clearly that is not the case here, and my reading comprehension took a hit.

Not a big deal. We’ve all experienced a misstep or 2 in the forum. I have been with Wyze since 2019 and have had a misunderstanding or two. The Forum is a great resource for users.

Hi Fmills1d,

Thanks for understanding, As I age, I expect more of those, so please hold onto that 'No big deal" for while for me, I may need it again :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Totally agree with you
