My wife is a very naive woman and fell for several scams that cost us over $20000. Romance was involved. Long involved story that included her sneaking out at 2am and driving to the airport to meet some guy who naturally never showed up. Almost ruined our marriage. I’m getting too specific, but now she treats everything like a scam and she has to be convinced it is not.
Lock all three credit reporting agencies to start.
I got a scam call that my iPhone flagged as potential spam. I was in a mood and called it back but did the *67 before I dialed the number. An Indian girl answered the phone and said her name was Marilyn it some non-Indian name but she spoke like someone from India. I let her do her spell and asked her if her parents are proud that she is a scammer taking peoples money and ruining lives. I got as far as parents are proud and she hung up in me. I have a vendetta against scammers because my my first hand experience. There was a JUDGE who got scammed out of 80K and jumped out of his office window to splat on the ground 30 floors down. It took a long time for my wife to realize she was not communicating with a Turkish movie star. I locked all my bank accounts but she took out unsecured loans at a high interest rate, maxed out her PayPal account, was very secretive and finally she was over her head and fessed up. I took a big hit on our retirement to close out all the loans. Fortunately she couldn’t touch the house because it is both our names. So, when I got a letter in the mail that appeared official referring to our mortgage being overdue and to call them. Our home gas been paid off for 15 years so I knew it was a scam. I called the number and of course an Indian sounding woman answered the phone and started talking about home warranties. I was NOT nice to her, and (NSFW warning) made references to Mohammad and sodomy. She got MAD. Since my diagnosis of stage 4 prostate cancer, I have no problem interacting with these scammers. Her credit is slowly heading to 700 from 500. She thinks she is stupid but I keep telling her she is dealing with professionals that have scripts in a multi story office building full of nothing but scammers. Some are forced to do this otherwise they will cut off a relative’s finger. They have no conscience.
