Everything went down catastrophically and nothing even shows on my account anymore. I’m ripping them all down for a different company
You have to do what’s best for you, but just know that any wireless system that uses servers will have this type of problem from time to time. Right now, there’s a wide-spread outage of Wyze, but we don’t know yet if it’s the Amazon AWS servers that many companies use, or Wyze’s internal problem.
I figured out some time ago that the Wyze cameras (and other Cloud based systems) are not really for security. I have them as a convenience so that I can see areas around my property.
I also have Amcrest cameras and a NVR for some areas and I plan to add more as they record locally (SD cards in cameras and hard disk in the NVR) and don’t rely on the Cloud/internet for anything. Most of my Amcrest cameras are POE, with a few WiFi cameras in specific areas. They are 100% reliable as long a no power outage. For that I have a generator.
I wish Wyze would come up with some POE cameras, and a way to push the video locally to a NAS. Inexpensive POE switches can be plugged into a UPS, and a whole house generator can provide unlimited power for extended outages.
Xfinity is offering an LTE auto-failover device with their XB7 or XB8 gateways now.
Put that device on a UPS and/or generator, and they will probably get you back up sooner rather than later because it is costing them $.
That would be cool, but doubt they’d have a big market for it. The trend these days is simple plug-n-play cameras with an app, and not needing an NAS, running cables, etc. Especially for people that want multiple cameras, it’s a lot of wiring. At least for the typical home consumer anyway.
