After playing with the alarm (Smoke/CO) options, have found that the camera’s main notification toggle must be on for a notification to be sent. While this seems to make sense, there are plenty of cases where people might not want notifications for motion, non-alarm sounds, etc (at times or always), but would still want to be notified of a potential emergency. For example I have an automation that disables notifications on several cams from midnight to 7am, but I would still want one for an alarm.
The proposal is that if the alarm sounds option(s) are enabled, they override/ignore any camera settings for notifications and send one as long as global notifications are enabled in the app and OS. A disclaimer can be put on that screen that they will ignore other notification settings and always notify. For something this important, seems to make sense that they always notify you.
One workaround potentially seems to be to enable notifications, but go in and uncheck all of the “notify” checkboxes under customize. Have not tested yet but seems that will probably allow the alarm notifications to come through. However, this no longer allows you to turn notifications on and off using an automation like “I’m Home” and “I’m Away”.
