After seeing so many complaints, my thoughts on Wyze

I’ve tried to search for an explanation. Association and roaming / handoffs are definitely the responsibility of the client side. Perhaps this counts as a bug if Wyze and other devices are steadfastly refusing to forget about their old Access Point. I’ve not let go of the DHCP range and encryption level theories either.

This was a good basic rundown of why it’s client dependent:

I`m happy… WHEN IT WORKS!

the problem is that the sensors often go offline… Then, the routines dont work as they should. Thats drives me crazy.

I have no more patience and I`m looking for other solutions.

I’ve recently changed the firmware on all my cameras from the RTSP version back to stock and all the problems I had with SD card playback went away. Still have problems with cloud playback but nothing like the issues I was having. Still using the same SD cards in all the cameras but I did reformat them so I could flash firmware.

Funny how some people can miss the point of another…The point being Code 20 and should I buy more of the cameras will I continue to experience this when updating, because that’s when the issue started.Wyze cams are for whatever you choose to use them for, no camera is fail safe, which is why you tried and have different ones. If you paid Attention you would see I said I had them for a few years…Anybody with Common Sense would know issues come about with wear and tear…Try to avoid writing books on subjects you thought you had a simple common sense answer to.

Funny on how you miss the point. We are not buying beta products. Stop lecturing people.

@R.Good @Customer,

Just saw this post. So wanted to pass on my experience.

When I switched to my new setup a while ago, I used the same SSID and most devices did not connect, I started to establish the connection again and realized one thing. The SSID appeared to be Case Sensitive. I went back to the Router, changed the SSI to match the exact case as it was before and everything started to connect as before. This was the first time I realized that SSID’s, in my case, was Case Sensitive. From that point on, I make sure I have the same case in the SSID and the same IP Scheme.

I recently switched to a new Mesh Network, put in my SSID, same case, and everything connected: Wyze, Ecobee, TV’s, Printers, etc.

SSIDs and keys have always been case sensitive as far as I remember but that’s a good tip. I’ve noticed sometimes they work both ways and sometimes not. I think some devices accept both (or the client automatically retries the variant) but am too lazy to research the spec.

I should have known this when I first did it. But wasn’t thinking at the time. Figured I would share in case someone else was having issues as well. Not sure how many individuals realize the case sensitivity.

Appreciate the clarification.

I believe they have been case sensitive from the beginning. It makes sense from a security perspective.

The only thing I know in windows computers and DOS that is not case sensitive is email addresses. There are probably other things, but just to be sure, I always copy exactly except for email addresses.

No complaints… just #wishlist #wishlist #wishlist :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I agree totally and reliability is far greater that my dlink products have ever been.

My complaint it’s probably a common one for a rapidly expanding company especially in a pandemic. They simply can’t keep up withsupport requests with all the products they’ve suddenly released or are releasing.

I apologize, the comment was meant for a different email from a friend… I mis posted the comment… I again retract it. And apologize

You can delete the post.

I don’t know how… I will try thank you

Three dot menu, Trashcan.

Mahalo!

Got it deleted thank you very much.
Again my sincere apologies for my error.

Well, here’s my rant on one particular topic… The sense contact and motion sensors… I’m 99% sure my rant will be deleted. (And full disclosure I’ve been a customer pretty much since the beginning… first camera I bought was a V1 .. now, I’ve got 22 of 'em! v2’s, v3’s, WCO’s, & Pans!)

I’ve just lost my FOURTH sense motion sensor, after replacing the battery… I can’t count how many contact sensors I also have lost after replacing the batteries… (started with 22 contact sensors on my doors and windows, down to about 10-12 that are still working 2 years later… All failed after getting a low battery warning and replacing the battery… after doing so they refused to connect again)

I am desperately searching for reliable source of Wi-Fi motion and contact sensors, to trigger routines that are compatible with Alexa…

the WYZE products were an epic, and spectacular fail… A terrible design…

…and they’ve completely abandoned them… Can’t even buy a replacement… And, the new versions of the contact sensors and motion sensors are only sold with a monthly monitoring service… which I do not want/need or can afford… There’s a reason I started buying $20 cameras, cuz I’m on a budget…

I’m not buying a bunch of monthly subscription plans to make these products work properly…

I used to have motion sensors in multiple rooms that, when triggered, would turn on the lights in that room on, and 5 minutes after no activity, would turn them back off… It was fantastic… for the time it worked, anyway…

Now, thanks to WYZE’s crappy, horribly designed products, none of those routines work anymore… One by one, the motion sensors - or contact sensors, died…

over the course of a little more than a year, all four of the motion sensors in those rooms have failed due to the low battery/replacing battery issue, that renders the sensor junk…
They can’t even be set up as new anymore!!!
Now that’s a really horrible design…

and the company really should back up the products they sold, by offering replacements… (I was able to get them to replace the first one that died, but after that they stopped even responding to support requests… Now I’ve got a pile of motion sensors and contact sensors that are all little plastic pieces of junk… :joy:

but, I’m pretty sure If they replaced all the failed sensors, it would bankrupt this little dog and pony show of a company…

I’m super happy they’ve got the resources to dedicate to an RC car/camera that no one seems to be able to purchase… (sarcasm) :wink:I guess the April fools joke is on me,.. for continuing to be a customer.

Off to Amazon to search for reliable motion detectors / sensors… If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears…

Well my lights may not come on automatically anymore … but it feels good to get all that sh!t off my chest. :joy::sweat_smile:
