After seeing so many complaints, my thoughts on Wyze

Well I for one have a draw load of other manufacturers products that have caused me problems. Now I just use Wyze and Shelly to run my automated house. As others have commented Wyze produces a good product for an exceptional low price. Over all Wyze has continued to improve and I see less issues with there products as time goes by.

I agree.

When Wyze announced their security system I thought sure the price is great but I have Wyze outdoor cameras now and by the time I get the notification that my husband is on the front porch he’s already standing in the bedroom talking to me.

I don’t know what would make the security system work differently than the system that I already have set up… So I’m not going to buy it and then come here and complain about it.

I have two Wyze outdoor cams, six bulbs and two plugs. They aren’t perfect and sometimes I get frustrated with them but are any of these devices perfect?

I also have several phillips Hue products. They cost a lot more and come with their own frustrations.

Considering the price I just deal with the frustrations and if I don’t get timely notifications from my $20 device it’s fine…
I have dogs for that.

Agreed. Things should definitely work as advertised, regardless of the price point.

This is a good take. I don’t use Wyze for security. I also use ring and have had no complaints outside of the initial investment. My cams are for monitoring my 3D printers and around the house.

I have the same problems with my outdoor cams, but my V3 cams notifications are much quicker. I also have phillips hue bulbs which I am getting ready to change out for wyze bulbs. Alexa stop recognizing those bulbs several times and I have to remove them and reinstall them… tired of doing that. I have 4 wyze bulbs that I havent had any issues with

U hit it on the head w/ the cheapskate that whine & moan like a 5yr. 1 person even mention their canary takes temp reading. I myself have 1x outdoor, 2x V3, & 3x v2 & a v1. All performing as expected in the price range. Thx 4 sharing yur view on Wyze 4rums, as 4 the whiners, get some swiss cheese, & the moaners, stay in the bedrooms.

Yes Ma’am

I have three v3 and three v2 cams, two outdoor cams, and the robovac. I’ve been very pleased with performance of all devices, especially given the cost. I haven’t had any issues minus one outdoor cam not coming online after a firmware update. A simple power cycle of the base station fixed the problem. I ordered the home monitoring kit, so we’ll see how that goes. It’s a bummer people have so many problems… As mentioned $20 cam vs $200-300 cam; you can’t really complain. Perhaps there’s a lot of user error from all the technology handicapped folks?

Yeah no. Don’t do that. If you peruse the forum at all, many of the loudest complaints are coming from technical people.

You may think people are whining about the performance of a low priced camera and sensors, etc. However, if you read the comments I don’t think you will find anyone complaining about things the hardware wasn’t sold to do. You should be able to get notifications in a reasonable time, get video recorded on the cloud or SD card and have bulbs and plugs that work as designed and as advertised.

I think that the products are quite good, especially for the price, but they simply don’t always perform as advertised.

Nice missive. I just wat to add that I have the outdoor cams on my yachts as well as a couple others. We have about 15 cameras in total. We all have the ability to view from anywhere on the planet via internet. We set them to notify each other if anyone intrudes while away. A community thing. Mine is set to turn on a light via wyze plug. To keep this short. I have been using wyze cams since day one and I have never ever been so satisfied with a product of this nature. Cost, Reliability and customer support is fabulous. We have every yup of Cam wyze makes, and the “hits just keep on coming”… better and better. Lastly, the very harsh conditions on the Ocean have yet to stop them from working. And, now with TMOBILE wireless internet here in Hawaii I can use them as far as I have the signal… which at present is about 10 miles… offshore At present it’s only 4g as 5g towers are under construction. In the next few months 5g should be in play and my range will triple and my speed of 150mbps should at least do the same.
I am and will continue to be an avid supporter of wyze.

Well said and concur. I too have Ring devices as well Wyze… the cost or Wyze is a no brainer cost.

Ditto this… I am a bit of an IoT nut and have over 60 cameras monitoring four properties. The cameras range from $20 to $2800. I expect different things from cameras at different price points. I actually only purchased my first Wyze Cam V2 so I could use the contact and motion sensors in my garage to control my lights via IFTTT . Since then I’ve purchased a few more V2 and V3 cameras and a couple of pan cams. They are so low priced, I can just stick them anywhere I want a camera for some odd reason…like a boiler room for remotely monitoring the sights and sounds while I’m away.

And yes…every camera system I own has strengths, weaknesses and bugs. I can praise and disparage all of them in one way or another. I choose to use different models and manufacturers so I can leverage the relative strengths of each…and never have all of my eggs in one basket.

I agree, the cameras work great. I don’t have yachts or a boat with wifi, but I have other things I like to keep an eye on. The cameras work great, I just don’t like the 15 minute lag in notifications from the cameras or the door sensors if you have an android device newer than 8.0. If they fix that I will be their number one fan. Right now I am still a fan, but I want my notifications sooner. And Ring just replaced my 2 year old doorbell for free well past warranty. You can’t beat that, unless your doorbell does not malfunction in the first place. Which I admit would be better.

My complaint about vehicle notifications is the number of false alarms. If I leave a car in my driveway, I get vehicle notifications when there’s changes in light, cars driving down the street at night, etc. So much so that I turned it off.

I have 9 cams - a mix of V2 and V3 across 2 properties a hundred miles apart. Overall I am pleased for the price. I thought Wyze did a nice thing grandfathering those of us who lost person detection and letting us pay what we want. I love the new V3 night vision. I did subscribe to Cam plus to try that out on one V3 and it’s decent - a few too many false alarms. I’ve had - 2 sd cards go bad - but I can understand that. On the rough and tough positive side, I have one that’s outside facing the ocean 24/7 - it’s been through a hurricane and a nearby tornado and still does a great job nearly 2 years later (provided some great footage too!). I have an outlet and their headphones and I’m generally happy with both - again, particularly for the price .
My chief complaint is the handling of bricking sensor kits. Because of the distance, I can’t be there to proactively change batteries. I’ve lost at least 5 sensors at this point. I feel like there should be some ammends made. We were told they’d last a year - mine never made it that far, and while I’m ok replacing a battery, having it brick the device is just kind of crummy.
Still I don’t regret any Wyze purchase yet. I do have a bit of higher aspirations for some of their handling though.

I have also been pleased with my 3 V2 Wyze cams and 4 Wyze plugs. HOWEVER, my four Wyze bulbs and six Wyze contact and motion sensors continue to go offline. Very frustrating because when they work, they work fine (albeit a tab slow reacting.) So after a year of removing batteries, rebooting router, reconnecting the bridge and hearing “Ready to connect” more times than I can count, I simply gave up. Life is too short!

Agree, I am glad I only bought one camera cus it was a waste of money as long as the Plus Member subscription, During the trial period it worked great, after I paid the subscription it stopped recording events. Even with low expectations it is a waste.

We have have two V2 ( I have been replacing them with V3s), six V3s, eight Pans (four are outside), two exterior cams, two door locks (with keypads), three contact sensors, a doorbell, a thermostat, a scale, and a pair of headphones. Other than a dead on arrival V2 and a door lock that failed after a few months (both of which were replaced asap) all have served us well. I have never had the problem with cameras going offline. Other than during a version upgrade) and an occasional reboot they have performed as expected. I even had a pan cam get placed into a poorly draining gutter during installation and it has performed flawlessly for months since then. I am a fan and have been since the beginning.
