Unable to locate a wish list to provide an integration IP module to have my 3rd party cameras integrated into the Wyze app. It could be a subscription based module that could take one or many IP ONVIF info and translate it into a WYZE protocol. I’m a security integrator of 30+years and realize there a millions of cameras out in the field ready for this to occur.
There is a wish list forum here you can post it in, but to be honest, requests for improvements to their own stuff rarely get traction so I think it is unlikely they’ll be looking to integrate outside brands.
You have better hope setting up a NAS and one of the programs to stream your various cams to that, then you have a single place where everything is accessible.
Thanks Dave …hoping the subscription hook could be the attraction needed.
I edited while you were replying, @carverofchoice can probably provide some info if you want to use a NAS and stream all your cams to that. It is easier with the older models but still doable with the newer ones.
I had the EXACT same thoughts when I posted this in the most recent AMA event they had (though specific to Home Assistant this time):
I know they read it, but they didn’t answer this time. I will keep bringing it up though. Same with RTSP, etc.
The most recent response about RTSP is this Question and answer from this Spring/Summer:
Personally I suspect they are going to take the following stance: not devote any resources to other integrations until the Matter camera libraries are finalized.
Last I heard, CSA Matter had not yet officially decided on a streaming protocol. They might choose HLS, WebRTC, RTSP, SRT, or something else…Apple tried to convince everyone to use their proprietary standard, which everyone else rejected outright as completely off the table. At this point it could be a waste of resources for Wyze to start developing RTSP or another integration only to find out that CSA is requiring something completely different which will then work with and integrate with almost all the other major companies all at once instead of building separate integrations. If I were them I wouldn’t devote any resources to it until that was finalized by the CSA first. Only then would I analyze my options for the best and most efficient/effective way to move forward. They’ve long told us for a few years now that they were holding off on any other integration progress until the Matter Camera libraries were finalized…and the CSA has been issuing delay after delay on smart cameras. They’re now the only Smart Home Category that is not represented at all with Matter, so I have to believe they’ve got to be included in the next version…but I understand that other than routers (which could have critical financial and other data) cameras are the one category that everyone is super paranoid about, so they’re probably taking extra time and precautions for that reason.
Once matter for cameras finally launches, my expectation is that Wyze will finally analyze their options and consider how to move forward. Assuming they agree how to move forward, it could be another 6-12 months after Matter for cameras is released before we really see any progress on this issue because their roadmap is typically decided 6-12 months in advance already. I will certainly be asking them about this as soon as it does launch, but I can’t see any way they do something before end of next at the earliest, and probably not until 2026.
I’d love to be wrong though.
In the meantime, I plan to keep brining the topic up to them so they don’t think people stopped caring about it.
