Gotta gift for ol’ Tom, the OP.

Now you can start ‘building your brand.’

Thank you all for your kind words.

@peepeep I’m thankful that I had so many lovely years with them all. And I’m glad I was able to peacefully have their suffering come to an end. Spent all day yesterday snuggling him until our appointment at 6:30. I was with them all until their last breath.

@carverofchoice yeah. Hunter pup passed in September, Aston passed in February, and Diablo passed yesterday. Man, it’s hard. And poor Cooper just don’t understand.

That sounds fun! I’ll have to check that out.

Bonus points if you can figure out how they were named.

That is TRICKY! There are 2 answers!

One possible answer, the obvious one that most people will jump to, is that they are all Luxury car names or brands:

  1. Aston Martin is a luxury British sports car manufacturer
  2. Diablo is a model of Lamborghini,
  3. M. Cooper is a model of Mini,
  4. Bentley is a British luxury car brand,
  5. Hunter is a model of Hindustan Motors.

BUT that is not ACTUALLY the only possible answer

Another possible answer is that they are all authors or co-authors of scientific papers.

  1. Aston M. is a co-author of a paper on the economic impact of space weather
  2. Diablo is a co-author of a paper on cues to deception
  3. M. Cooper is a co-author of a paper on single-nucleotide polymorphisms
  4. Bentley is a co-author of a paper on subsolar-mass binaries
  5. Hunter is a co-author of a paper on the effects of climate change on coral reefs

I’m sure I could find authors with publications that are a better fit to your job/interests instead, but it is just fun making the point that it COULD be something other than cars :joy: I know you’re so totally into that Diablo research about the cues to deception that you named your pet after it.

I’ll help you narrow it down. I also had a cat named Tucker, who passed at the young age of 4 back in 2011.

Oh good hint, yes there is a famous paper titled “The effects of climate change on coral reef health” by Tucker J. M. and one titled “The role of social media in shaping first-generation high school students’ college aspirations: A social capital lens” by Tucker C. J.

Definitely leaning toward you being obsessed with research articles!

You couldn’t possibly be referring to Tucker as the luxury car produced by the Tucker Corporation in the late 1940’s, since it closed down due to negative publicity, a Securities and Exchange Commission investigation, and a stock fraud trial.

You definitely helped narrow it down to you being a scientist! :+1:

I cried harder when I had to put my rattle down (dementia) than when my father and mother passed naturally. Sometimes I think that’s wrong but it is what it is. I was close to my parents too. But my dog was there every waking minute whereas I saw my parents an hour once a week after I got married.
And we know our pet will die before we do and we know how bad it feels. Yet we get another pet.

I keep an itemized list of what that thing ended up costing. It is in my iPhone Notes so I can kick myself once in a while. I saw this design on the web and as a mechanic, I said “heck, I can make that!”

Red tube $32.00

Flowers first design $12.00

Flowers second design $25.00 (I think @AnnWithAPlan told me to get the kind the hummingbird can rest on - so it is partly her fault :sunglasses::wink:)

Street ell x2, cap, and rubber stopper $10.00 (one street ell was sacrificed and the rubber stopper was not used

Rubber end cap $5.00

3 hours to design, manufacture, and revise several times. Typical salary for an ASE CMAT L1 MRRT at the time was about $35.00/hr

Total parts $83.00
Total labor $105.00

I need to get mine up again. I like being able to see how much is left in the feeder.

When my fiancĂ© and I decided to get a couple of dogs in 2015, she stated more than once that she didn’t want to outlive them. She had been diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer in 2007. A few years earlier she lost a cat that she had had for 20 years and she didn’t want to go through that grief again. I lost her in August 2021. It took a while for the boys to adjust to only seeing me.

I’m so sorry to hear that. My condolences. I lost my husband about 16 yrs ago. Although we didn’t have any pets, I do know what it’s like to lose them.

It was cars. :joy: Hunter was an accident in the sense that was his name before he came to us, it just so happened to fit. :joy:

This is from Saturday. The morning light was hitting the window and illuminating him pretty well in this clip!

Bonus: the squirrel did NOT stick his landing. Points deducted from his final score. :joy:
