2019 Bulbs (V1) not working on Mesh Network (Tri-Band), yet Wyze White Bulbs do work

  1. Updated to 6e Mesh Network (Tri-band) and Wyze White Bulbs successfully paired and operated normally through Wyze App and also through the Home Assistant App .

  2. However, the Wyze 2019 did not. Initially, these bulb had challenges joining the Network (2.4Ghz of the Tri-band) or even after completing the pairing process they all would go back into pairing mode (slow blinking) on their own.

  3. Then, I created a separate IoT network dedicated to devices that are limited to 2.4GHz. The Main Network was set to operate as 5GHz (removed 2.4GHz).

  4. Now, all Wyze 2019 remain solid/paired, 100% brightness illuminated and appear paired in Wyze App as if online/active, but are still detected as offline by the Home Assistant. On Wyze App it has Mac, IP, but signal Strength is Missing status/bars (no bars) unlike the White Bulbs at full strength (3 Bars) and about the sMe distance from the router.

  5. The 2019 bulbs do not “listen” to requests from the Wyze App when toggling Off/On (not rapidly) and keep getting set to 1% brightness. The bulbs don’t change from 100% illumination, just the app status.

Note: Non-Wyze bulbs were automatically detected by the Home Assistant (discovery mode) and operate on the Mesh Network from Step #1 without modification to the out-of-the-box Network.

Found this post from 2023 for iOS users, but may also relate to Android, but it’s not a solution to install the app pre-dating 2023.

The issue is less complex, but very disappointing to encounter.

Apparently, the issue was introduced some time ago. Most wouldn’t encounter this unless the bulb moving to another network. Once this event occurs the 2019 Wyze bulb will only “connect without internet” during the Wi-Fi smart bulb lookup.

The bulb will not respond to the App/Functions and re-enter pairing mode on its own (flashing light).

I encountered that same problem and waited about 3 months or more for a fix.

Warranty on the 2019 bulbs is three years. I bought my bulbs in 2019 so warranty expired.

I bought Kasa bulbs and have no issues.

Funny thing happened a month later when someone gifted me the newer Wyze bulbs. Those connect differently and seem to work fine.

Since this problem has been around for a while, it might be time to get a new version and be done with the 2019 bulbs.

I didn’t realize how little I paid for the 2019 bulbs. I did send my bulbs into Wyze for testing but haven’t heard anything.

Newer versions work great and easily connect to my Google home device.

Some items are worth troubleshooting, but when I realized what I paid and time spent on troubleshooting, I moved on.
