12-second Event Video with 5-minute cool down or “rest” period

Not really. Access to the SD card is purely local, if you’re on the same LAN. Same with NAS.

Downloads from the SD card are (like a time lapse), but not viewing or capturing footage.

Thats very helpful, but not good enough. Many of these cams are mounted high up on ceilings and roof eves and you cannot easily remove and view the SD Card. The WCOs are better, because you can put up to a 512G FAT10 formatted card into the base station for all WCOs.

There is no actual COOLDOWN required, that is WYZES terminology for limiting bandwidth (which I understand). Everything runs thu our routers anyway, WHY is it so hard to allow storage on a NAS DRIVE, just like a SD CARD?

Or save to another cloud location: dropbox; OneDrive; Sharepoint; iCloud; etc…

I actually discussed this with Wyze during a video conference interview they did with me. Sad to see the idea never went anywhere.

Maybe WYZE’s thinking about allowing BYOS, is that they would lose Cam Plus subscriptions, and thus lose $$$'s by doing so?

If SD Card storage, and accessing data on the SD card where equal or better than how you access your data in the cloud, then I would agree with you.

Accessing data on the SD card is cumbersome and inconvenient

Easy, sell it as CamSaver™, $19.95/yr, unlimited cameras with your own storage.

$19.95/yr, unlimited cameras with RTSP/ONVIF and Web access on my PC… I would consider that.

That’s a great solution
