100ft distance power issues

Hello everyone,

I installed 4 Pancam v4 and they all have over 100ft of USB-C cable run. My cameras are not getting enough power as they are connecting then disconnecting. I have the included power bricks plugged into wall sockets. Is there another kind of power brick I can use? Or has anyone had this issue and know what to do? Thank you all for any info.

The limit of USB is 15 feet (except USB-C with PD but these cams do not have PD). If you look at the recent topics you’ll see a discussion of using Power Over Ethernet adapters to get up to 300+ feet of power. Alternatively you can get AC power run closer to the cams, but that’s usually more involved.

Some people have gotten 25 feet USB to work but there is no way 100 is going to work. Not even sure where you found a cable that long, pretty sure that’s outside the spec for even USB-C PD.

I would disconnect the cams until you get something proper in place as the low voltage can damage them. It is also putting a very high load on those wall adapters probably making them run very hot.

Here is some discussion about long cables on this thread.

Hey Richaleoni,

I have lots of CPv4’s and have found them to be extremely fussy about power. There are lots of 30’ cables on Amazon that specifically say they support CPv4 but they simply don’t work.

I’ve had success using the USB extension cables sold by Wyze but they’re only about 20’ long. The good news is that the CPv4’s still work if you put two Wyze extension cables together - that gives you 40’. Haven’t tried putting three together but it’s probably worth a try.
The next best option isn’t that great, but it will work. That’s extending the line outlet toward the CPv4. It’s a PITA but it works. You won’t have to experiment.

Do not daisy chain two cables to get 40 feet. Even if it seems to work, you’ll almost certainly have problems with SD card corruption, intermittent connectivity, etc.

15 feet is the official max. Some have stretched it to 20 or 25. You need to use another solution if you have a long distance between the AC outlet and the cam.
