Wyze Thermostat Wiring Issue

I just received my two new thermostats in the mail. My system does not have a c wire so needed to use the c wire adapter. After getting it installed, I found that the thermostat is kicking on my furnace and a/c at the same time. This is true when I only have the stat set to heat. During troubleshooting, I bypassed the thermostat to check the wiring and was able to turn on each unit independently by only jumping the respective wires. Oddly, when I connect the thermostat both units kick on again. What I have read online indicates the thermostat is bad. Since I bought a second unit for the upstairs zone, I have it a try and the same thing happens. That would mean both units are bad which would seem odd. Does anyone have any other suggestions, I have a simple 4-wire system: R, Y, G, W with the G wire now being used as the c wire through the adapter.

It cost me a $104 service call to figure this out. The app wasn’t very helpful with it. The technician found if you have a four wire furnace the G wire at the thermostat needs to be connected to the C terminal. Everything else wired the same. The G wire turns into the common wire after being wired to the C wire adapter at the furnace.
Hopefully this helps.

Ghawe1, thanks for the response. I did figure that out last night when I couldn’t get it to power up. I have R, W, Y matched up at the thermostat and G going to the c terminal. That doesn’t seem to be the issue, unfortunately.

FYI: I am having the same exact issue. AC Compressor and heat run at the same time. I am also running C wire adapter.

As an update, I disconnected the Y wire completely from the thermostat so that my ac condenser is not running simultaneously. I also have a ticket submitted to Wyze support. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same issue with mine. Be interesting to find out the cure.

I have been having the same issue whether I am putting the compressor wire on the cool or the heat the compressor kicks in. Like there is a ground issue. If anyone gets an answer please post it.

I also have the same issue. I just installed my new thermostat. I don’t have a C wire so I used the adaptor, I found that the thermostat is kicking on my furnace and a/c at the same time. While it’s set to heat. During troubleshooting, I was able to turn on each unit independently by disconnecting the wire for that unit. When I reconnect both wires for the thermostat both units kick on again. I have a simple 4-wire system: R, Y, G, W with the G wire now being used as the C wire through the adapter.

Can you provide photos of the furnace board and thermostat? What are the model numbers of the indoor and outdoor units? This will help with troubleshooting.

I would probably call a tech before blaming the thermostat, especially odd that both would be bad. Simple thermostat install shouldn’t cost much.

Thanks, also one of the C-Wire Adapter?

Funny thing is that if I have the air conditioning on the heat doesn’t come on. Everything is wired correctly according to the diagram wyze provided.
The posting would only let me send 3.

Why are there 3 red wires? I don’t think 2 reds are supposed to go to the adapter.

That’s my house humidifier. In the beginning I did not have it hooked up and it was still doing the same thing. The way I have it hooked up right now it works with the heat.

I would think the wire from the humidifier should go to the white on the board since there is no hum terminal. It may make no difference. Personally I’d pull a new 5-18 wire and skip the c adapter for what I’m reading it’s only grief.

Yeah, I have a short run and was planning on do that.

Thanks
