Wyze Thermostat turning off compressor for 5 seconds then back on

Im hoping someone at Wyze, an engineer, or corporate reads this. As I havent been able to get anywhere with this issue. As a result I am very frustrated and wish I could return every single device I bought from Wyze. I’ve called and submitted tickets, and emailed them. Anyway, on to my issue.

It would be random, but a day out of a week or two days out of two weeks my Wyze unit would go offline. I MUST remove the unit for a few minutes and put it back. It works for a few minutes and goes right back to offline. At some point it finally works and stays working for days or even a week. When its offline I can hear my compressor going on, off, on, off, on. Ive had to replace my entire system because my origional unit burnt up. And now its doing this craziness to my new unit.

When the system turns on, for some reason after about 3 to 5 minutes the compressor turns off for 5 seconds and comes back on. Why does it do this? Honestly, Im not sure why im asking here. Im beyond frustrated, flustered, and upset. Each time I hear my compressor turn off and back on I lose a little piece of my soul. Fear of another 15 grand o n another new system. Ive already bought a different brand Thermostat. Still on its way. I must have lost 2 years of my lifespan stressing over this.

Wyze has lost their way. I hope people consider something else. All they tell me is to submit logs. Ive done that and no help at all. Still the same old same old.

This sounds like a possible low current issue. Is the transformer that powers the wyze and the a/c contactor maybe a bit under powered? If the transformer is overloaded, the contactor might release slightly even with a full call for cooling coming from the wyze.

to test, you could set up a jumper in parallel with the Y1 and Rc terminals. then wait for the wyze to start cooling and connect the jumper. with the jumper connected from R to Y, wyze cannot stop the compressor, so if the problem still happens then the wyze is not directly at fault. The reason the wyze needs to be connected for this test to be valid is that without the load from the thermostat, the contactor might be stable and not disconnect.

Hello Speadie, I appreciate your reply.

I’ve read a little about this. Would checking voltage help? Rather than jumping wires and waiting. Also this doesnt happen all the time. Its really random and I only notice it when I WFH. I can hear the compressor outside and hear the wyze unit click. Its a coincidence that they’re both really close to me.

While I am a bit handy and technical to a convenient degree. I wouldn’t mind checking voltages if I was given a little guidance as to where to check.

Checking the voltage under load would tell you something, but most air handlers will turn off if you attempt to run them with the door open.

Does the wyze actually click before the compressor turns off? Can you tell if it reboots when that happens?

Correct, the wyze clicks and the outside unit turns off. The inside unit is still on. About 5 to 7 seconds later the wyze clicks and the outside unit turns back on. It happens shortly after it begins cooling but not every time.

I will check and see if i notice the wyze rebooting when this happens the next ttime.

I had this issue few years ago and turned-out I miswired thermostat trying to connect it without adapter in furnance. Once I’ve installed adapter in furnance everything is working fine.

What kind of adapter?
Could you go into detail?
