What if you already have a bunch of interconnected CO/smoke detectors which produce standard alarm sounds? In that case it would be good to have a listener which recognizes the standard CO/smoke alarms.
For instance, Ring has such a device and it seems to me that it has got the official certification as well.
Wyze cams do already have this. However Home Insurance providers will not accept this as a Professionally Monitoredā service for a discount.
For some, this may be an acceptable solution. For me, because I am in the process of a remodel and will be installing a WiFi enabled interconnected system, I would prefer to buy a Wyze unit that will have compatibility for monitoring within my already installed HMS.
Short of that capability, I will be installing a different brand of interconnected units with WiFi and using the cam listeners as well. But, it wonāt be professionally monitored because it isnāt compatible with the HMS.
The shortfall of the listening cams is that the majority of my cams are perimeter security cams. I have very few that run 24\7 indoors.
Andy, I think the Wyze cameras already provide a listener without an extra device. Would I trust my life to it? No, but that is the job of the alarm system. It already alerts people in the house.
Yes, the cameras provide that functionality but for some reason Wyze doesnāt want to exploit that in HMS probably because the recognizing capability is not ā100%ā?
Anyway, when you have many interconnected detectors and many cameras, the system works well enough in practice meaning that at least one camera detects the alarm sound right away.
Also, l use Pushover app and IFTTT applets to receive a āpersistentā notification to my Android devices. The notification makes a loud sound every 30 seconds until acknowledged (it also overrides do not disturb setting).
It is also possible to use an applet to send the alarm automatically to Noonlight but the said alarm is a burglar alarm even though it should be a fire alarm.
so we get back to my parrot who thinks he is the smoke detector and sets off the wyze camera
Your parrot can mimic a T3 or T4 alarm signature? That is one talented bird!
@mark.winger Well done. This is basically what DMP does but their system recognizes it as the fire alarm. Wyze needs to do something similar.
Greetings.
Since beginning of the year, I have joined this forum to understand why Wyze is not developing Smoke/Fire Sensors like other competitors (many of them). Unfortunately we have not received +ve news from Wyze.
I am happy to share this news that I have been successful in installing the Plug and Play Smoke/Fire Sensor from X-Sense Smart Smoke Fire Alarm Sensor Model XS03-WX, 3 Pack (available in Amazon). While reading item description, it stated that we can subscribe to Protect+ Premium which provides 24x7 monitoring and dispatch service when alarm is triggered.
As part of install, it comes with X-Sense app (available in Google Play store) to configure the sensor (just like when we install new wyze sensor). After completing, it provides option to monitor using Protect+ Premium Plan. To my surprise, the company that provides Protect+ monitoring service is the same company Noonlight that all of us having monitoring services for Wyze security system with very nominal yearly/monthly subscription. After signing up for that and requesting, I received combined monitoring certificate (home security for various hazards and conditions based on sensors I have, which include: burglary/trespass, water leak intrusion (from Wyze) and smoke/fire & CO (from X-Sense). I submitted this certificate and have received little more discount (because of water leak sensor) from my insurance company.
So, we can still use Wyze security technology combined with X-Sense smoke/fire sensors monitored by Noonlight. If you and many Wyze customers considers this option, then NOT WE, Wyze is going to loose business of selling smoke/fire sensors (if they decide to make one).
Hope this helps.
This is great info. Can you tell us more about the Protect+ monitoring service? I couldnāt find the info on their website. How much does it cost?
The only reason I have the wyze serivce is for the insurance discount and the lack of fire/smoke detection makes it almost worthless. This sounds like a good option depending on the cost of that additional service.
First I had reviewed XS03-WX where I found description "ā¦
- Fast Fire Dispatch Within Just 3 Seconds: As a subscriber to the Protect+ Premium which provides 24/7 professional monitoring service, when an alarm is triggered, you will receive a message from the monitoring center within 3 seconds to verify the emergency. After the emergency is verified, a fire truck will be dispatched immediately"
But I ended up buying 3 because of my needs.
The monitoring cost when I enabled couple of weeks back was 4.99/month; 49.99/Year.
Yes, my insurance did provide same discount as before (for security monitoring that included smoke/fire I was having) and got additional for water leak detection sensor from Wyze.
Bharat
what about a sensor that would connect an existing system to the Wyze security system
Hello,
Since wyze has gone the whole hog to offering home monitoring at $99, it portrays wyze as a serious contender to traditional alarm companies, even though that may not admittedly been by design! It however falls to lock step with and causes much negative perception on how serious it is with the monitoring service, as the co+smoke is a critical component of monitoring home conditions for customers. Apart from hobbling the obtainment of the usual discount in as homeowners insurance which is typically fire+burglary and there is no burglary standalone discount!!
Considering the range of sensors that are made available, it is not comprehensible what is so difficult to create a smoke/co sensor, which has been adopted for a generation and in such a mass scale and is a commodity item. Reluctance to roll this out immediately will make it truly an odd man out situation.
Hope it is introduced without any further ado the 2022 year end/holiday season itself!!
Thx
Bump -
Yes, I have bought two and not activated one yet.
A life safety system that has to be absolutely 100% perfect, cannot miss a single communication or someone might die, connected to random wifi modem, dependent on AWS and the internet working perfectly, set up by random individual who canāt figure out why they canāt make their camera work across aluminum siding.
What could possibly go wrong?
Welcome to the Wyze User Community Forum @jayp26677!
Agree with you 100% that the addition of WiFi enabled Smoke\CO Detector\Alarms would be a great addition to the Wyze Sense \ Home Monitoring System. There are countless successful applications of the same technology with these exact capabilities from other manufacturers currently providing protection to homes all over the world. The utility and effectiveness of the application has already been proven and UL certified in other brands.
The addition of WiFi enabled professional monitoring and push alerts\notification only adds value to the already existing local smoke\CO alarm capability of the battery operated wall squawkers that have been in homes for decades now, The Smart Detectors do exactly what the old designs do, only better since they still audibly alarm inside the home to alert residents who are present AND alert authorities when no one is home to react to an emergency.
This is insurance company specific. My insurance company does give me a discount for the Centrally Monitored Burglary Alarm. I would get an additional discount if I had the Smoke\CO Alarm Monitoring (which Noonlight is already providing, with certificates issued, for X-Sense Smart Smoke Fire Alarm Sensor).
Smoke detection
are you going to add smoke/co2 detection to your home security system?

100% perfect exists only in the mind, not reality. All detectors and sensors fail. Life and death ones fail. Ever have a āCheck Engineā light. NORAD fails. PC Board manufacturers have insane and multiple redundancy testing using AI capabilities which exceed imagination. Yet, at the end of the production line, there are humans to hopefully sort out the fraction of a percent that make it through the gauntlet. And they miss someā¦every run.
Waiting for perfection is delusional. It is the definition of a bachelor. Better is achievable, and I hope Wyze comes through soon. Their products, except the night lights, have exceeded my expectations. across the board.
I appreciate the thought but existing smoke detectors do nothing more than wake you up. At least these are connected and working 99.8% of the time and will also contact the fire department which is feature enough to get a discount on my homeowners insurance.
of course it is standard in the legacy system of nortel I have, that pad/controller certainly has a smoke/co detector built for it, and the alarm company also has the discount for fire, which means they factor in how widespread its availability and use isā¦ I certainly have had it right when I installed the alarm panel/keypad early 2012ā¦ I cant understand why wyze doesnt offer that feature as you do have motion and entry sensors, standalone co detectors are required by law since decades!
In real fire alarm systems, the failure of a detector or the failure of a wiring connection are discovered and reported to the system as a ātrouble.ā
Having wifi as an extra feature is OK as long as the life safety does its job in a stand-alone fashion.
You just have to ask yourself, would you bet your life on your internet connection always being there? Would you take the responsibility to bet someone elseās life?
