Why are the release notes so vague and why link to them if it literally says what the post says? This is a subscribed product that has its first firmware update in almost two years and it’s “improved connectivity”

When we live in a world where ARR is king, you’d think a product that needs a subscription to use would get more attention to encourage renewals

I can answer some of that:

  • Consistency and Accessibility. Sometimes the release notes are too long to always include in the announcement, but doing it all the time allows standard procedures and consistency. Release notes are often a standard location for technical updates. Even if the announcement and the release notes overlap, linking ensures that users familiar with checking release notes can find the same details.
  • Comparison/Logs/Record keeping. Some people don’t update to every firmware release, so some want to check the last few updates as well to see if it’s worth updating yet from one a few versions ago and see if any of the other intermediate upgrades include something they want to be aware of. I have done this some times with certain cameras.
  • Professional Practice to ensure transparency and thorough communication even if it seems redudant, it makes it more reliable.
  • When they don’t link to it, sometimes they get complaints :man_shrugging:

But I totally agree that I would generally like more details.

I did recently have 2 weird connectivity issues with my hub within the last month out of the blue, so I suspect they did some new change with their servers on the back end. I then updated to this new firmware in Beta and didn’t have the connectivity issues since then, so I think it’s working, but I think the issues I had were something they caused themselves with their backend changes and this firmware might be to accomodate that. But I can’t speak for Wyze, I am just GUESSING based on my experience in the last month. Still, thought I might as well share.
