Wyze Plug went offline while away on vacation; how to reset?

Was away on vacation and had a Wyze Plug set up to power a grow lamp for the wife’s plants. During vacation it unexplainably went to “offline” status and was no longer functioning. Seemed odd because other connected devices such as Wyze cams nearby continued to function properly.

I’m back home now, and haven’t touched the plug yet. I would assume a simple power-cycle will probably reset it and regain connectivity. But before I do that, was wondering if there is any method to bring a Wyze Plug back online when nobody is home to physically unplug and replug the device?

The Wyze Plug is on firmware version 1.2.0.236.

Any thoughts or knowledge about this are welcome!

I think that’s generally the way to do it and what immediately comes to my mind. It’s a good question, and I’m also curious about input from others.

One other thing that might work if your network is set up to do this is remotely rebooting your gateway/router or restarting your Wi-Fi. There are likely a few ways to do this, but I don’t know if it would be worth the effort in the future if the problem is determined to be a single Plug. I think this decision would also depend on how well you trust your gateway and other devices to reconnect when you’re not there, among other potential risks.

My Wyze Plugs are all the originals and on the most recent firmware version for those models (1.2.0.80). Occasionally I’ll see one show up as “Offline” in the Wyze app and then later will be “On” (as expected) when I look again. I attribute that to other LAN issues I’m experiencing at the time, but I think that means “wait it out” is another potential choice. That’s not really ideal if you’re away and want/need/expect something to be on, though.

With the newer Plugs, I think you have the option to set Local Schedules. Is that correct? I don’t know how you’re using the Plug for the grow lamp, and even if you have Local Schedules set I can understand the connectivity loss being a problem because in that case you can’t see if the Plug is on or off when you expect (can’t monitor it remotely from the app), but at least those don’t rely on an Internet connection back to Wyze’s servers to run (as I understand it).

As a side note, thank you for including your firmware version in your post! That kind of information is helpful when thinking through these situations. :+1:

I can now confirm that a power cycle did regain connectivity with the Wyze Plug, though curiously not immediately. It was at least several minutes later before it showed up online again.

Somewhat disappointed in the product if I can’t depend on it to function properly and consistently when I’m away from home, as there is no way to power-cycle it while away unless I hook up another smart switch on the wall outlet itself, or another Wyze Plug upstream toward the power source.

I will also add here (for both my Wyze Plug troubles and my Wyze Switch troubles) that I have a fairly modern WiFi 7 system in the house that has a weekly reboot schedule already set up.
