recently installed this lock and am hoping to get some input on the following:
-there’s a small unlocked padlock icon on the access keypad, what purpose does that serve, when is it used? when i enter my security code the door unlocks without having to then touch the icon, same with the fingerprint access… so when would you use the icon?
-is touching the closed padlock icon, using a physical key, or using the app the only ways to lock the deadbolt from the outside? entering your code or simply using your fingerprint will not lock the door from the outside?
-is there a setting that offers haptic feedback when entering your code on the keypad, a confirmation vibration or the like? it’s impossible to tell if the lock is registering the numbers you touch until you’re finished and the door either unlocks or doesn’t unlock.
-the bolt turn switch / knob on the inside of the door is wobbly when in the 12 o’ clock position and the deadbolt is unlocked, ie it has a lot of play back and forth, making it feel cheap, poorly made, rather solid and strong - i tried recalibrating the bolt thinking that would firm it up, make turning the knob more decisive and firm, but that didn’t help - so is the loose / play in the knob just how this lock is?
-is the loud mechanical noise heard when the lock is opened or closed an app enhancement or is that actually the noise coming from the mechanics of the lock?
I’ll try to address your points in order with my best understanding:
I think the icon can be used to hasten unlocking if you’re using a keypad PIN. If I enter my PIN on the keypad and do nothing else (touch only numbers), then there’s a little lag at the end while the lock seems to be trying to figure out if I’m done pressing numbers and have entered the full PIN before it actuates the unlocking mechanism. If I tap in the PIN and then press the button, then there’s no momentary wait and the lock unlocks immediately. It’s kind of like an ⏎ Enter key to finalize the input.
I believe that’s correct if you want to lock it manually. You can also do things like enable Settings ➜ Auto-Lock to have the lock take care of locking itself after a certain amount of time or set up Location Automations so that the device will lock when you’re (your phone is) a certain distance away from it.
I don’t think this lock has any haptic capability, but you can enable Settings ➜ Volume ➜ Status and Operation to make the keypad beep when you touch it.
My interior latch knob has a little bit of play in it, but it doesn’t seem excessively loose. It’s similar to what I’ve experienced with some “dumb” deadbolt locks and even a previous electronic deadbolt that I used to use. The device itself feels pretty solid in its operation to me and has since I installed it. Unless you’re able to quantify it somehow, I think any experience with play or slop is likely to be fairly subjective, and it’s possible that manufacturing tolerances are loose enough that maybe you’re noticing it more with this lock than you might with others, but I’m just speculating here.
When I trigger the lock with the app (or when I hear it lock itself at night because I have Settings ➜ Lock After Hours enabled), I hear a mechanical/motor sound from the lock, and it’s similar to what I would hear from my previous non-smart electronic lock from another manufacturer when it would actuate electrically (from the battery, in contrast to the regular mechanical operation with the key). If I have Status and Operation sounds enabled in the app, then I also hear beeps/tones from the lock’s speaker.
Those are good questions! I hope my answers make sense. Again, these are just my understanding and may not be entirely correct.
after using this lock for a few days i like the older version much better, especially the aesthetics, unfortunately the older version is only bluetooth, not wifi, otherwise it would be a no-brainer… also, today the deadbolt closed a bit after i opened it (fingerprint), in other words it unlocked fine but when i shut the door the bolt had closed (by itself) just enough to block the door from closing, very concerning… i tried to duplicate but couldn’t, have to keep on eye on it… anyway, thanks again.
I don’t have any experience with the previous version of the Lock Bolt (v1), though I can see why that might have more appeal for some because of the design and different finishes. Another recent topic also mentioned its Bluetooth-only connection as a shortcoming, and I can see how that can be a detriment. I do like the Wi-Fi capability with this one, and fingerprint reading has been reliable for me so far.
That’s weird about the latch bolt partially deploying when you didn’t want it to. Given that and the “play” that you described before, I wonder if something is hinky with the installation or the lock itself. I agree about keeping an eye on that, and if it happens again I’d consider submitting a log through the app and then following that up with a Support ticket that includes the Log ID (submitting a log does not automatically generate a ticket).
