Wyze Lamp Socket V2 AP_LSV2 bluetooth WILL NOT CONNECT

Wyze Lamp Socket V2 AP_LSV2 bluetooth WILL NOT CONNECT. Says an app is needed to connect. What other app is needed beside the Wyze Android app? Using BETA WYZE APP FIRMWARE v3.8.0(b705) on Samsung Tablet A8 and 3.7.8.702 on Samsung Cell phone S20. Will not pair either way.

More detail about what you’re actually attempting (specific steps you’re taking) might be helpful for understanding the problem.

Are you trying to add a Lamp Socket v2 as an accessory? This product doesn’t work as a stand-alone device but is an accessory for compatible cameras. What happens if you navigate to a compatible Cam’s  Settings âžś Accessories âžś Lamp Socket v2?

Thanks for answering. I am attempting to attach a Wyze cam V4 to the Wyze Lamp socket V2. I have tried several times and when I get to the part in the app where it says to connect the Bluetooth, it will not connect. Even though I go to settings on my tablet and start Bluetooth search, it shows the socket Bluetooth AP_LSV2, but when I try to get it to connect, it will not and a window pops up saying I need an app to connect. Now updated Beta app firmware to BETA APP version V3.8.0(b706) . When I navigate to Settings âžś Accessories âžś Lamp Socket v2, on the camera I am trying to connect to _Wyze cam V4, it shows the part of the app where it says install a Lamp Socket V2, even though I have gone through this several times before. It is as if I have not done the steps for connecting the Lamp Socket at all, which I have done several times now. Including factory reset both cam and socket.

I’m still not sure what you’re doing.

It’d been a while since I’d set up one of these, so I did a factory reset on a Lamp Socket v2 (which was already attached to a Cam v4) and went through setup for it with a different Cam v4. I don’t usually have Location enabled on my phone (Google Pixel 4a running Android 13) but turned that on before starting because that’s often required for Bluetooth discovery. I also had Bluetooth enabled but this is almost always the case because I frequently use Bluetooth headphones with that phone.

In the app, I navigated to this test Cam v4’s  Settings âžś Accessories âžś Lamp Socket v2 âžś Install a Lamp Socket and then walked through that process. I skipped the installation tutorial. When asked if I wanted to power a Wyze Cam with the socket, I skipped that part, too. I told the app that the camera was already set up and selected No, Finish Installation when asked if I wanted to install another socket, eventually getting to the screen that said “Installation Complete” in the title and “You’ve successfully installed your Wyze Lamp Socket v2!” That’s the screen that told me the next phase would be to pair the lamp socket with the device and the Wyze app.

When I continued through there (tapping Next a few times), I got to the “Searching for your device…” screen which transitioned to “Pairing your device…” and then “Select your network”. Then I selected my Wi-Fi’s SSID and continued on. After that, the app presented me with a list of compatible Wyze Cams that I already have installed so that I could choose one to pair to the Lamp Socket v2 (even though I had initiated the process from a Cam v4’s Settings). After making the selection, I was able to finish the setup and prompted to go to the Lamp Socket v2’s settings. There I could test and configure the socket.

At no time did the app prompt me to connect anything directly to Lamp Socket v2’s Bluetooth radio or show me any kind of Bluetooth radio identifier. I do see “AP_LSV2_############” (where “#” is a hexadecimal digit) listed on the MAC line when I navigate to that Lamp Socket v2’s Device Info after it’s been paired to the Cam, but I’m not seeing any of the prompts you’re mentioning and have no idea why you would even use your tablet’s Bluetooth settings to search for this device, because that’s not how Lamp Socket v2 is designed to work.

For grins (trying to figure out what you’ve been doing), I factory reset that same Lamp Socket v2 again (!) just so it would be disconnected from the Wyze app and so I could open Android’s Bluetooth settings and tap Pair new device. At that point “AP_LSV2” immediately popped up in Bluetooth device discovery, so my phone definitely sees the socket as a broadcasting Bluetooth device, but that is not at all how I would even attempt to add such a device to the Wyze app.

I think that you’re trying to use your Android device’s Bluetooth settings to connect the Lamp Socket v2. Please don’t do that. If I were you, I’d factory reset the Lamp Socket v2 and try setting it up as a Cam accessory the proper way: wholly within the Wyze app. If that continues to fail, then please consult the article I just linked as well as others within that same Troubleshooting section of the Help Center and then feel free to come back with other questions.

I started talking to you several months ago, but I gave up and put it aside for a while. I would like to work with you some more to try to figure this out. I was not trying to connect my tablet to the device as you described but since I do not have a phone that is compatible with the Wyze app, I am using my tablet. But the directions did say I needed a bluetooth device to set it up. I have been following the directions exactly but still cannot get the socket and camera to connect, The socket does not work with the camera and vice-versa. Thanks for working with me before but I am still not able to get this to work. I have tried many times including factory reset both devices several times with no luck.

Where are you seeing this? I re-read this topic, re-opened it, and merged your PM here so that this would be a public discussion that could potentially help others in a similar situation. Without more detail of the exact steps you’re taking and where you seem to be hitting roadblocks, I don’t know what else to do at this point aside from referring to my most recent previous post.

I did a Google search for “what is the bluetooth for when setting up Wyze Cam V4 and Light socket V2" This below is the response.

Here are the specific details regarding Bluetooth usage for these devices:

  • Wyze Cam v4: The Cam v4 uses Bluetooth for initial pairing and configuration instead of the older QR code method. When powered on, it initiates Bluetooth pairing, which is detected by the Wyze app for a faster, “hassle-free” setup.

  • Light Socket v2: While the Lamp Socket v2 itself connects to Wi-Fi to be controlled by the camera, Bluetooth is often used to assist in the initial pairing and linking process between the camera and the socket.

  • Requirements: You must enable Bluetooth on your smartphone and ensure you are in close range of the devices during the setup process

My road block starts at the point of trying to connect the two devices via bluetooth. They just don’t seem to pair and I cannot get the camera triggered light functions to happen. Also, no matter what I do in the settings of the V4, I cannot get the spotlight to stay off when an event is triggered. It seems others have had this problem too.

In case yours isn’t enabled and you’re using Android, you’re also going to have to toggle on Location at the Android-level and give the Wyze app Location permission for setup.

Are you saying that I have to be using a smartphone instead of a tablet? The tablet is what I have been using all along for the set-up and operation of the Wyze app and all my Wyze devices with no major problems, except the one I am having here. Also, I have been enabling the bluetooth on the tablet, which is why I mentioned the bluetooth ID for the socket in my initial post. Not sure about turning on location. I will try that when I try to do the set-up again. It might be a couple days before I start trying to set this up again. Just trying to get what ever more info I can get before starting again.

No. You can use either a phone or a tablet.

Are you running Android? If so, what is the make and model of your tablet and what Android version is loaded?

Yes, you need location setting enabled and location permissions allowed for the Wyze app for Bluetooth setup. That is an Android and iOS requirement for Bluetooth, not a Wyze requirement, but they go hand-in-hand.

As mentioned in my initial post, I am using a Samsung Tablet A8 Android version 14. Wyze BETA app version now v3.11.0 (b756) I also tried using my wife’s android Samsung Cell phone S20, Wyze App version at the time version 3.7.8.702, with no luck there either.

I have a Samsung A7 running Android 12 and an A9+ running Android 16 both running app v3.11.0 (b756). I’ll delete a Socket v2 tomorrow and try to connect to a Cam v4 tomorrow during the daytime to see if I run into problems.

Edit… also have an A9 running Android 15 and will try that too. I no longer have any Android 14 devices.

Navigate to your Cam v4’s  Settings âžś Spotlight Settings and set SPOTLIGHT CONTROL to Manual. If that doesn’t solve that problem, then I’d have to wonder if you have created any Device & Service Trigger Automations to activate the spotlight.

Since you’ve indicated that you can access the settings for your Cam v4, I believe that means that your Cam v4 is properly connected to the app and that you can view it and control it as you would any other Wyze Cam. Is that correct? If so, then I’m puzzled by what this means:

When setting up Lamp Socket v2, as I noted several months ago, you do that entirely within the Wyze app. Your phone or tablet must have Bluetooth and possibly Location permissions enabled[1], but you initiate the actual connection to the Cam v4 as I described in that post; you do not use your phone’s Bluetooth settings to try to create a separate direct Bluetooth connection to the Lamp Socket v2 as if you were adding another Bluetooth device (Bluetooth speaker, link to car’s Bluetooth connection, etc.). The Wyze app should create a Bluetooth connection to the Lamp Socket v2 and send your Wi-Fi information over that connection so that the Lamp Socket v2 has its own Wi-Fi connection to your local network.

  1. The Wyze app should already have these permissions if you’ve been able to successfully connect your Cam v4. ↩︎

Crease Since you’ve indicated that you can access the settings for your Cam v4, I believe that means that your Cam v4 is properly connected to the app and that you can view it and control it as you would any other Wyze Cam. Is that correct? If so, then I’m puzzled by what this means:

I have been trying to set up the V4 without the socket so the spotlight would not come on. Because when I was trying to setup the socket V2 and Cam V4 and I triggered the camera to record an event and turn on the porch light with the socket V2, the V4 spot light would come on and the porchlight using the socket V2 would stay off. I do not want both lights coming on, only the porch light. I have tried everything suggested in other threads regarding this issue, but it still comes on. I checked and have not created an automation trigger. Just last night when I thought I finally got it and it did not trigger the spotlight when I put my hand in front of the camera the light stayed off, but later after moving the camera, the light came back on and continued again with other motions detected, whether I moved the camera or put my hand in front of it.

as far as the bluetooth, it has been a while since attempting that, but I was not trying to connect the devices in the manner you mentioned. I was just trying to verify that the device (socket V2) was sending out a bluetooth signal.

I believe that indicates that the camera is sensing motion and turning on the spotlight and that you may have Spotlight Settings ➜ SPOTLIGHT CONTROL set for Auto. If you want to share a screenshot of that settings screen, then that could be helpful in understanding why your spotlight is doing what it’s doing.

Here is the screenshot you asked for, It took me a while as I am on a computer here because it is easier to type ect. with this. So I had to take the screenshot from the tablet and transfer here.

Good. That looks like you have the spotlight set for manual control, so it shouldn’t be turning on when motion is detected as long as you have that setting. :+1:

Thank you for sharing that!

I know what you mean about how sharing screenshots can be cumbersome here, and I also prefer typing on a PC, which is why sometimes I use a PC to control my phone or sometimes upload images or videos from my phone into a Forum post and then save the post as a draft and finish typing/editing in a PC browser.

Also, as I have seen in other threads concerning the spotlight problem, it would be very helpful if the selected control was made more obvious which is the selected setting. As it is, one has to guess, and through trial and error discover which is the selected setting, the white or shaded?
