I just muted this conversation. It is headed so far away from being on topic.
The monkey should be kicked out. I don’t care how big he is.
Thank you moderators for removing the political BS.
I suggest the Original Poster, @Mashushu , recap the thread and highlight the content he found most useful.
Also, an OP can close a thread any time he likes, I think. Flag the original post and ask for it to be closed.
I don’t know where all your anger and animosity towards me comes from. I don’t want to be your friend but I would like to get along with you if you disagree with my post you may certainly PM me and I will have a discussion, a peaceful discussion with you about your views.
If you go back and you look at my past post you will find that they are not aggressive they don’t attack people and in general they’re helpful. If you have an issue with me, let’s get it resolved. Continually bashing someone online does not cure the problem.
We don’t want to support a Chinese owned company
How about an American company owned by AMERICAN CITIZENS, some of whom are of Chinese origin?
Is the “we” to whom you refer okay with supporting such a company?
Or only citizens whose descendants came over here from England on the Mayflower?
And how about a company owned by those descended from Native Americans, who were here before the Mayflower arrived?
Sure. I 100% support an American company owned by American citizens no matter where they originated from. I replied to the OP who stated Wyze is a Chinese company. Since it is a Chinese owned company, all profits made are going back to China, not the United States.
Except it’s not, and the only evidence provided seems to be a Chinese app page that says Hualai produced the app and camera (which seems to be true and was not hidden). The poster also claimed ThroughTek carries Wyze video, which is false.
The thread title really should be changed to at least add a question mark.
It has already been demonstrated above that it is NOT a Chinese owned company. It is an American owned company! Please see lengthy, detailed posts above by “carverofchoice” setting forth the DEMONSTRABLE FACTS and please watch this video:
I think the mods tried to be fair with what the OP would’ve chosen the title to say (rather than what the accurate summary is). The title is false, but it is what the OP would’ve said if they were to choose the title themselves, and in such a case, Wyze and the mods would rightfully leave it as it was intended, regardless of the falsities involved. So based on that it was perfectly written even though most people understand it to be untrue, the mods don’t go modify every false claim nor every discenting opinion, and so I agree with leaving it alone since they do the same for all others with false statements or falsifiable opinions too. I love that Wyze and the mods here allow dissent as long as it stays reasonably within the guidelines. I’ve always been impressed with how they try to balance freedom with keeping a good environment for the community in general. It is why I come here way more often than places like Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Our mods do great trying to balance a hard job.
Yes, I definitely have a problem being loquatious (“lengthy, detailed posts”) sometimes! While beloved by detail-oriented people, I often lose the attention of Yellow/Sanguine Personality types, and some reds/Cholerics who will often skip over most of what I say.
But I sincerely thank you for the great compliment! I am happy to hear my posts were appreciated.
Your post is not appropriate for this forum please refrain from any political issues. PERIOD
hahaha,
so I’m a lil late to the Convo but has everyone forgotten…
Have you actually looked into the brands you buy from Amazon. Almost all of them are Chinese manufacturers with a rebranded “Americanized” name specifically for selling on Amazon. That’s not even including the deals Amazon makes with the manufacturer to slap it’s name or Amazon sub-brands name on their products for a win-win.
I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I’m happy with many of my purchases. I spent 2 months looking for a mattress on Amazon before choosing an Avenco mattress. Its great I love it and would purchase another one. Just don’t be oblivious and make smart purchases.
This was talked about on the reddit AMA https://www.reddit.com/r/wyzecam/comments/ou4og6/were_the_cam_plus_team_ama/h6zz7cq?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Yep, yep, I was actually the one who brought it up in the Reddit AMA so we could get it addressed from a real Wyze source. Here is what WyzeShawn said about this issue for those who would prefer to read it here instead going to an external source to search through and try to find the applicable posts (but I added direct links to each comment for those who want to go view it themselves):
Source Direct Link about Hualai & Wyze Trademark
Source Direct Link - Another question of mine where he clarifies a little bit more about Hualai:
(He technically answered the bottom one first, then answered the top one afterward…I just wanted to post them in order of most relevant to our current topic first)
I can’t speak for anyone else, but it sure sounds like Wyze is pretty emphatic that they aren’t owned by Hualai, and Wyze is totally separate just as most of us have been saying. I love how he basically said they had more important concerns with their supplier at the moment (getting enough camera’s built by them is a higher priority for them right now than beefing with them about the China trademark that they don’t need right at the moment anyway), but they’ll get around to investigating it. They’re busy enough with another lawsuit against Xiaomi and Roboroc right now anyway. One battle at a time.
I thought he was also pretty clear about how their AI stuff is all independent and in-house with strict data/technology access policies. I think he did a pretty decent job addressing this “Hualai/China” nonsense. I am grateful he chose to humor me on those questions so I could post a response from a Wyze employee here.
With the political atmosphere of tech security, I’m not surprised they kept AI development in the states.
The shortage in material is going to continue untill the Mountain Pass Mine In Nevada is in Full Production, estimated 2022.
It would be pretty great if Wyze would allow owners of their products to help train the AI. Something like object recogintion. search a database to see if an object you own is already logged or not. If there is missing data allow the owner to scan and register the object then upload it for review. This would greatly diversify the data. I don’t think owner submition of facial recognition data should be in any general consumer product. This is an area I really hope wyze doesn’t follow in Amazon’s footsteps.
You’re in luck! Wyze appears to agree with your wish/suggestion! Review this thread on that subject:
