Nah, if you wanted to disable NAT on your Eero you could put static routes on both routers to make it work (at which point you’d want to disable DMZ on the Nokia and let it do the NAT’ing) but its extra complexity for really no benefit.

IP passthrough on the nokia would basically eliminate NAT on it and put it into sort of a “faux” bridge mode. Your eero would get the public WAN IP instead of the Nokia. It isn’t all that common but sometimes providers that don’t allow bridge (like AT&T fiber in the US) will offer that mode. DMZ with double NAT is close enough to the same thing.

Just googled it, apparently the router does support bridge mode but Rogers doesn’t allow it. Double NAT with DMZ is fine, the Nokia isn’t really doing much at that point.

Yeah, that won’t happen as Rogers Wireless Internet is using CGNAT.

Technically it would, your eero would get the CGNAT IP and they’d still re-NAT it as it leaves their network.

So you actually have triple NAT :slight_smile:. If you need inbound connections or VPN you can look at using IPv6 but I think we already discussed that at some point, I think you’re using a VPN that initiates the connection from the cottage so inbound connections outside the VPN aren’t needed. That’s the most secure way to do it regardless.

Yes, I am using Tailscale VPN, it’s amazingly easy to deploy and works like a charm. I can connect to my servers at home using VNC and SMB from the cottage like they are here. Also I have a direct connection to my Plex server at home so I can stream full HD as well as watch Netflix. I have an Apple TV at home that acts as a subnet router and exit node and one at the cottage that acts a subnet router only. Everything connected behind the Apple TVs can see each other as being on the same network. The network at the cottage gets routed through the Apple TV’s exit node at home and Netflix has no idea I am over 500 Km away from home. Now, I am just waiting for Rogers to install some 5G towers close by as I only get 4G signal at the cottage. The speed fluctuates between 10-25Mbps down and 5-10Mbps up. Good enough for my needs but faster is always better :wink:

You gave great explanations. The only thing I would add to it related to Wyze is that when qos or similar features are enabled, that may mean that your router can cause connectivity issues for smart cameras and other devices that it thinks don’t need priority for connectivity.

It occurs to me I rarely see error codes any more. The only one I recall lately is when the three-step authenticate-and-load dance fails. Don’t even recall the number. Maybe because I’m so quick to force-close clear-cache at signs of anything amiss that the more advanced codes never have a chance to develop?

If a weaker signal cam authenticates but fails to load the stream I get a circular reload icon in the center of the screen with a Troubleshoot link below that opens a Submit a Log form from when tapped. First time I tapped that was tonight to see what it would do. :slight_smile:

As I understand it, beamforming intentionally creates MORE RF interference to focus a WiFi signal toward a client device.

I’ve never used an ISP router. The old Motorola I just replaced was one I purchased about 6 years ago.
